Assistant Director for Championships & Governance

The Assistant Director for Championships and Governance will assist in all areas of conference operations with emphasis on championship administration and sports governance. They will manage all aspects of sports governance and championship administration for the NEWMAC's 20 sports. In addition, the assistant director will have direct oversight of all 17 sport committees, Athletic Trainers Committee and other committees as assigned by the Executive Director or Associate Executive Director.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage all aspects of sports governance and championship administration for the Conference's 20 sports. This includes scheduling and running all preseason, post season and pre-championship meetings as well as any additional calls necessary for those designated groups.
  • Communicate with Coordinators of Officials in 11 sports for championship planning.
  • Work closely with hosts of predetermined hosts to establish event budget annually.
  • Oversee the 17 sports committees, athletic training committee and other governance committees as assigned by the Executive Director or Associate Executive Director.
  • Represent the Conference Office at Events and Championship Tournaments.
  • Develop reports of all committee meetings and move appropriate action through the governance structure.
  • Develop requested reports and meeting materials to the Executive Director and Associate Executive Director in a timely manner for high level governance meetings.
  • Disseminate reports in a timely way to committee members.
  • Responsible for coordinating all aspects of championship administration includes bracket seeding internal announcements, game times, policy interpretation and enforcement, securing of officials and the NEWMAC Box Office.
  • Responsible for Championship expense reconciliation.
  • Assist in the development of proposed schedules for Conference's regular season competition in adherence to Conference policies.
  • Manage vendor relations for championship merchandise, ticketing, signage, and awards.
     

Your Other Responsibilities:

  • Organize and reserve all conference meetings and events space.
  • Assist with Conference SAAC.
  • Assist with NCAA Compliance.
  • All other duties as assigned

 
Your Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics administration with a focus on governance, compliance, or championships.
  • Strong leadership abilities and a proven track record of managing complex projects/events and leading teams.
  • Exceptional verbal, written, and online communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and attention to detail in addressing compliance issues and resolving conflicts.
  • Must be able to manage multiple responsibilities under tight deadlines.
  • Knowledge and adherence to NCAA Division III and NEWMAC Conference rules and policies are critical.
  • Proficient computer skills in the following programs: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, athletics website content management systems and social media platforms such Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
     

Work Environment

  • Must be able to work remotely from a home office and located within the NEWMAC geographic footprint.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods.
  • Ability to concentrate for long periods of time.
  • The position will require travel as well as night and weekend work.

 
Salary and Benefits: Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience ranging from $50,000 – $58,000. The NEWMAC provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes health, dental and a retirement contribution.
