
The Mountain West (MW), an NCAA Division I Football Bowl Subdivision and College Football Playoff athletic conference, is accepting applications for the position of Director, Governance and Compliance.
General Description
The Director, Governance & Compliance will serve the Mountain West Conference and its member institutions supporting the day-to-day aspects of the Conference’s governance and compliance services.
The impact of this position is to enhance the overall student-athlete experience and to ensure compliance with NCAA and MW policy, in doing so, safeguard student-athlete well-being, and maintain focus on initiatives designed to elevate MW to the highest possible levels of performance and exposure.
Using this member-centered approach is consistent with the MW’s mission to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship.
Responsibilities
· Assist with Conference operations in area of responsibility.
· Become proficient in the Teamworks platform to facilitate communication with the membership and meeting administration.
· Participate in-person, at all-staff events, meetings and team building exercises to promote culture and build relationships.
Governance & Legislation
· Support Conference's governance efforts, preparation of materials, agendas and presentations for governance meetings. Coordinate, collect and create meeting supplements and materials (PowerPoint and mailings) ensuring constituents receive materials/slides in a timely manner. Manage the logistics and prep of the meeting room, ensure the projector, sound, and connectivity are working. Run the slides during meetings and be available to troubleshoot any meeting logistics.
· Serves as a liaison to MW committees and groups within and outside the formal MW governance structure. Committees and groups include compliance administrators, academic directors, FARs, SWAs, athletic trainers, Health and Safety Advisory Committee, Recognition Committee, MW Board of Directors and related committees, institutional governmental affairs group and other new or ad hoc committees or groups as assigned.
· Assist in the maintenance of governance policies and procedures.
· Assist with governance related projects, which may include developing legislative concepts, drafting proposals, educating the membership and collecting feedback from the membership.
· Support championships and other Conference office departments/governance groups.
Compliance
· Provide support for the Conference Compliance services.
· Prepare rules and education material for in-person meetings and conference calls.
· Support monthly, quarterly virtual calls and periodic in-person meetings for MW partners and various outside entities.
· Research and issue interpretations and provide relevant education materials pertaining to NCAA legislation and MW regulations.
· Monitor rules violations and assist institutions with inquiries and investigations as appropriate.
· Process NCAA and Conference waivers.
· Provide support and education to sport liaisons on compliance issues related to their respective sports.
· Administer orientation sessions for new compliance administrators, academic administrators, faculty athletics representatives and SAAC members.
· Create and maintain forms needed for compliance administrators in coordination with the relevant legislation.
· Participate in preparations for in-person and virtual meetings with MW constituent groups.
· Maintain the MW compliance and compliance-related platforms (e.g., Compliance Corner, compliance social media accounts and SAAC social media accounts).
· Assist in the development of initiatives to be implemented across the Conference throughout the year which encourage inclusivity and promote an atmosphere that welcomes diverse voices.
· Provide compliance support on sport-specific head coaches meetings.
· Oversee the maintenance of the MW Compliance Corner.
· Provide support and education to sport liaisons on compliance issues related to their respective sports.
· Provide compliance support on sport-specific head coaches meetings.
Student Athlete Services
· Coordinate student-athlete involvement in MW governance structure.
· Assist with all programs supporting the student-athlete experience.
Ensure student-athlete experience and well-being is a priority in all Conference initiatives
· Plan and host student athlete events.
· Ensure student-athlete experience and well-being is a priority in all Conference initiatives.
· Liaison to the MW academic administrators, Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), SAAC Executive Team and SAAC Social Justice Committee.
· SAAC Community Service Project.
· Liaison to SAAC Social Justice Committee.
· Plan and coordinate in-person meetings, monthly and quarterly virtual meetings for compliance administrators, academic administrator and Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
· Liaison for SAAC social media.
· Oversee the coordination of the MW name, image and likeness.
· Manage the aggregation, analysis and drafting of memoranda regarding academic data including, NCAA APR, GSR and FGR.
Sports Administration Support
· Assist with sport administration as needed.
· Monitor and communicate national and Conference issues.
· Monitor NCAA and MW sport-specific policies.
· Support Championships and other Conference governance groups.
· Other duties, including Commissioner delegated projects and championships support, as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
· Working knowledge of Division I intercollegiate athletics, the MW and its institutions’ programs and higher education.
· Working knowledge of NCAA Division I rules and policies.
· Working knowledge of social media accounts across multiple platforms, including Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Instagram.
· Working knowledge in the processing of National Letters of Intent and the ability to serve as Lead.
· Effective and professional communication, both orally and in writing.
· Ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously.
· Ability to coordinate compliance tasks, including scheduling of compliance meeting, coordinating completion of NCAA and MW waiver requests, responding to NCAA and MW interpretive requests.
· Ability to serve as liaison to MW committees and/or groups, including groups within the formal MW governance structure.
· Ability to provide support and education to sport liaisons on compliance issues related to their respective sports.
· High attention to detail and effective organizational skills.
· Able and willing to assist with programs supporting the MW.
· Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Suite programs) and other relevant software required.

Desired Qualifications
· 5 - 8 years of related experience.
· Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced/professional or law degree(s) a plus.
· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a variety of constituents, including student-athletes, coaches, university and athletic staff and administrators, and various Conference partners.
· Ability to travel and work non-traditional hours, weekends, weekdays, nights, and holidays.
Location and Travel Requirements
Position is located in Las Vegas, Nevada. Expect 10 – 25% of travel.

Compensation:
Full-time appointment with a salary between $60,000 - $70,000 contingent upon experience and expertise; Highly competitive benefits package including medical, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, along with an employer-paid retirement program.
