Assistant Director/Network Production Assistant

General Description
The Network Production Assistant will serve the Conference and its thirteen member institutions (11 all-sport, two single sport) to support the production and distribution of content for the Mountain West Network (MWN). This position involves adverse range of responsibilities, from on-camera hosting and producing in-studio segments to traveling to cover Conference events as a reporter and videographer.

The overall impact of this position is to ensure coverage of all Conference events and deliver high-quality, engaging content that reflects the core values of MW and that complies with NCAA and MW policy, safeguarding a positive Student-Athlete experience and well-being and maintaining focus on initiatives designed to elevate MW to the highest possible levels of performance and exposure.


Utilizing this member-centered approach is consistent with the MW’s mission to cultivate opportunities for student-athletes to compete at the highest level while fostering academic achievement and sportsmanship.


Responsibilities

  • With direction from the Executive Producer and Associate Commissioner, create a “video on demand” for the MW network (MWN). Take video segments from concept to production to edit/completion in a timely manner as prescribed by the Associate Commissioner for Broadcast Production and Executive Producer.
    • Host, produce, and edit in-studio segments in the MWN Studio (Players of the Week, Players of the
      Year videos, Athlete of the Year videos).
    • Weekly interviews with coaches, players, and administrators for feature stories on MWN.
  • Travel to Conference Championships as assigned and serve as a reporter/videographer/sideline
    reporter/analyst/social media producer.
    o Work with Communications and Championship staff to coordinate Championship coverage.
  • Assist with building graphics for MWN and help build and maintain a historical video archive.
  • Coordinate video sharing with institutional videographers/producers.
  • Produce high-quality highlights and interviews to be used by local media.
  • Obtain video, sound, and photos from institutions regularly for use on the MWN.
  • Develop collaborative relationships with member institution athletics communications and video departments.
  • Collaborate with Executive Producer and Associate Commissioner on coverage of all Mountain West events (Live and On-Demand).
  • Collaborate with the MW Social Media team to cover MW Championships.
  • Gathers news, facts and video for assigned productions. Research and prepare story ideas for future productions.
  • Takes direction from others and completes duties as assigned by Executive Producer, MWN Associate Commissioner, External Comms Senior Associate Commissioner, and Social Media Director.
  • Ability to work as a Multimedia Journalist on multi-day assignments on MW campuses.
  • May serve on the production crew for various MW Championships for MWN Live Coverage.
  • Cohost live shows throughout the year at remote events to include but not exclusive to:
    o Football Media Days
    o Basketball Media Days
    o Football Championship Game
    o Basketball Championship Week

 

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 0 - 2 years’ experience. Broadcast journalism preferred, with knowledge of collegiate athletics.
  • Experienced in the practical use of video cameras to capture high-quality video for news features (work samples required).
  • Demonstrated skills in videography, post-production, and non-linear editing in television broadcast and/or webcast production.
  • Experience with the technical use of professional/industrial-grade digital cameras, professional lighting equipment, and techniques.
  • Able to travel (25-50%) and work non-traditional hours (weekends, weekdays, nights, and holidays).
