SUMMARY:
As part of the NCAA Division 3 Ethnic Minorities and Women’s Internship Grant, this two-year professional internship position reports to the Assistant Director of Intercollegiate Athletics. The Sports Performance Coach serves Montclair State University’s intercollegiate student athletes and athletic teams. This individual will develop a positive and transformational environment that fosters academic and athletic success. This job has a fluid work environment that varies greatly depending on time of year. The position includes a $30,000 salary, housing (apartment near campus), and partial meal plan. Position does not include benefits. The anticipated start date is August 1, 2024.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- In coordination with head coaches, design, implement, and supervise the strength and conditioning program for all 18 intercollegiate athletic teams.
- Develop performance-based testing protocol and an annual schedule which includes, but is not limited to speed, power, and agility measurements.
- Create and manage a tracking system to monitor specific metrics during the in and the off-season programs.
- Create and maintain performance database to facilitate performance output reporting.
- In coordination with the medical staff, assist in implementing post-rehabilitation and return to sport strength and conditioning programs.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations pertaining to workout programs for student athletes.
- Demonstrate proper lifting, agility techniques, standing for long periods as well as the ability to lift, pull and push 25-50lbs on a regular basis.
- Enforce fitness center policies with users.

- Assist coaches to facilitate and implement opportunities that promote cultural diversity and inclusion within the program (racial, ethnic, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, and religion).
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as working independently.
- Ability to work nights and weekends as needed.
- Serve as liaison to Campus Recreation.
- Limited travel to the NCAA office and conventions is required.
- Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
- Bachelor’s degree in physical education, kinesiology, exercises science, health science, or related field required.
- Current NSCA-CSCS or CSCC certification required.
- Experience with the use of various statistical software systems for intercollegiate athletics, including Microsoft Suite and Google Docs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Valid US Driver License and clear driving record check.
- Employee in this position must complete all appropriate background checks at the time of hire.
PREFERRED:
- A minimum of three years strength and conditioning coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
- Experience in a high functioning NCAA Department of Athletics preferred.
- First Aid, CPR, AED certification preferred.
