General Statement

The Senior Associate/Deputy Director of Athletic for External Relations/Revenue Generation is a member of the Director of Athletics’ Senior Management staff and will have administrative oversight of select sport programs, administrative units, external relations, and revenue generation of the athletic department. The Senior Associate/Deputy Director of Athletics/Revenue Generation specifically administers and manages all aspects of Athletic External Relations, including marketing, athletic ticketing, creative services, social media, athletics communications, athletics multi-media rights, and NIL opportunities. Also serves as a liaison for, Endowments; Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund; Sport Specific Funds, M Club, Special Events, Priority Points System, and development staff. This position will also have sport supervision responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Administrative duties including management of the athletic department external relations and revenue generating departments, a member of the athletic department senior staff, sport supervision, contract negotiations and management, campus, conference, and national committee representation.

  • Supervision of athletic external relations staff and departments and select coaches and sport programs.

  • Responsible for increasing revenue in all categories including to but not limited to, athletic tickets, sponsorships, events, NIL opportunities, and Bobcat Club activities.

  • Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, serve as the liaison to the Montana State University Alumni Foundation to include major gifts, endowments, annual giving, M Club, sports specific giving, estate and planned giving opportunities, reporting, and all policies and procedures relating to donations.

  • In cooperation with the Montana State University Alumni Foundation, coordination of the Bobcat Club Annual Scholarship Fund, including the annual giving campaign, per seat contributions, the athletic priority point program, and M Club.

  • In cooperation with the Montana State University Alumni Foundation, coordination of all sport specific giving including clubs and excellence funds and the relationships with their leadership, as well as business related to student-athlete NIL and revenue sharing, with direct oversight by the Director of Athletics.

  • Coordinate with MSU Alumni Foundation all special events including donor recognition, fundraising events, reunions, and game day hospitality.

  • Oversee all aspects of premium seating including football sky suites, cabanas, club seats/level.

  • Manage donor travel with Athletics.

  • Provide service excellence in all areas.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.

Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. Bachelor’s degree.

  2. A Minimum of five years of successful experience in collegiate or non-profit fundraising, specifically Athletics, as measured by significant increases in number of donors as well as major and planned gifts.

  3. Understanding of Athletics; experience with fundraising and donor relations and cultivation.

  4. Demonstrated expertise in public relations, including an ability to sell MSU, the Department of Athletics, and the MSU Bobcat Club.

  5. Excellent administrative skills, budget management skills, computer, software, and organizational skills.

  6. Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.

  7. Demonstrated supervisory skills.

Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills

  1. Post-graduate degree.

  2. A minimum of 7-10 years of successful experience in collegiate administration with an emphasis on fundraising and revenue generation as measured by significant increases in total revenue and donors

  3. Knowledge and experience in using fundraising software systems.

  4. Demonstrated experience in working with University Foundation’s policies, procedures, and personnel.

  5. Experience in the management and stewardship of premium seating including suites and club seating.

  6. Experience working with and adhering to NCAA rules and regulations.

  • Have experience interacting with a variety of constituents (the public, boosters, fans, administration, faculty, student-athletes) from diverse backgrounds.

  • Have public speaking experience which includes press interviews and radio and television appearances.

  • Have the ability to effectively and positively communicate the promotion of the University, the Department of Athletics, and the Athletics Annual Fund.
