Missouri Western State University located in St Joseph, MO, invites applicants to join our Athletics Division as Head Softball Coach. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, The Head Softball Coach is responsible for leading the softball program at Missouri Western State University.
The Head Coach directs, plans, and manages the operation of the softball program, including academic performance of student-athletes, coaching and training, recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, public relations, fundraising, and promotion.
Missouri Western is an NCAA Division II institution, which successfully competes in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA) in 16 sports and Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) in 1 sport.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Organize activities and programs to assist student athletes in academic success and personal development.
- Organize and develop the recruiting program.
- Develop suitable public relations strategies.
- Supervise assistant coaches.
- Organize, manage, and execute practices and games.
- Develop and manage budgets and the operations plan.
- Assist with fundraising for the softball program.
- Schedule practices and non-conference games and organize related travel for the team.
- Assist with monitoring and maintaining the softball facilities and equipment.
- Perform daily, weekly field maintenance including but not limited to mowing, dragging of infield, windscreen maintenance, batting cage care/operation, tarp installation (with team), cleaning of dugouts and care of bullpens.
- Assist facilities staff with preparation of the field on game days during the spring (possibly before, between and following games).
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of the sport and of game strategies.
- Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of public relations concepts and strategies.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to scout and recruit student-athletes.
- Ability to provide motivation and leadership.
- Ability to coach, teach, and train student athletes.
- Good decision making skills.
- Organized and analytical thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
