Assistant/Associate Director of Development-Athletics

The MSUM Foundation seeks a high-energy relationship builder with an entrepreneurial mindset and self-motivation ability. Reporting to the AVP for Development, the successful candidate will be responsible for the identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of an assigned portfolio of annual and major gift prospects and corporate sponsorship prospects. The ideal candidate will generate revenue and build strong relationships with coaches and administrators in the athletic department to increase engagement and support. Additionally, this role will involve identifying and executing opportunities to build a culture of giving to Dragon Athletics, including organizing team reunions, special events, and other donor engagement initiatives.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a Gift Portfolio:

  • Manage a portfolio of prospects, including former Dragon athletes, alumni, friends, corporations, parents, and charitable foundations.

  • Utilize prospect management and research to identify, cultivate, and track donors' progress through all stages of the donor cycle.

  • Build Relationships:

  • Build strong relationships with coaches and administrators in the athletic department to increase engagement and support.

  • Serve as a liaison between the athletics department and the Foundation.

  • Develop and execute strategies to secure corporate sponsorships for Dragon Athletics.

  • Strategy and Execution:

  • Identify, implement, and execute opportunities to build a culture of giving to Dragon Athletics.

  • Organize team reunions, special events, and other donor engagement opportunities.

  • Collaboration and Representation:

  • Work collaboratively with the MSUM Foundations team, Dragon Athletics department coaches, and staff.

  • Favorably represent and advocate for MSUM in all dealings with constituents.

  • Demonstrate the University's core values of grit, heart, and humility.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records and information.

  • Additional Responsibilities:

  • Strong analytical and consultative skills, with a head for business.

  • Organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.

  • Occasional regional and national overnight travel and some weekend work required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 2-3 years in consultative face-to-face sales, account management, relationship management, or similar role.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree.

  • Background in higher education and/or institutionally related foundations.

  • Athletic department experience as a former athlete or coach.

  • Experience in planned giving, leadership development, or similar professional roles.

Reporting Structure: This position will report to the AVP for Development at the MSUM Foundation.

Benefits: The projected compensation range for this position will be competitive and commensurate with the selected candidate's background and experience. The compensation package includes a base salary plus benefits such as health care reimbursement, paid time off, sick time, holidays, and employer contributions to a retirement plan.
