Head Men's and Women's Tennis Coach

Oversee the direction of the Men’s and Women’s Varsity Tennis programs at the NCAA Division II level. Responsible for recruitment, scheduling, practice/event preparation, budget management, fundraising and promotion. Assist the VP for Athletics and Recreation in a leadership role to enhance the internal and external visibility and recognition of the Michigan Tech Tennis Programs. Work with the Senior Associate Athletic Director to maintain and operate the Gates Tennis Center. Work with the Director of Recreation  on programming and membership   at Gates Tennis Center 

Essential Duties

  1. Plan, organize and administer the university's Varsity Tennis programs

  2. Direct the recruitment of tennis student-athletes on a regional, national, and international basis

  3. Develop and implement tennis practice sessions, coordinating tennis staff  to

  4. determine needs for individual and team improvement

  5. Evaluate Michigan Tech and opposing team capabilities to determine game strategy and manage/prepare the team for competition; determine strategy during games  in consultation with the coaching staff

  6. Enhance and promote the internal and external visibility and recognition of the University and team to a variety of alumni, campus, and off-campus groups

  7. Actively participate in fundraising and alumni activities

  8. Provide necessary resources to monitor and promote the academic success of student-athletes

  9. Plan, develop and administer budgets

  10. Represent and act on behalf of the  University as directed by the Athletic

  11. Director

  12. Work  with the Senior Associate  Athletic Director to maintain and operate Gates Tennis Center

  13. Work with the Director of Recreation to develop community tennis programs and promote membership. Opportunities to teach lessons will be available.

  14. Teach activity classes in the Department of KIP

  15. Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in University continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Education:

  1. Bachelor's Degree

Required Experience:

  1. Experience playing and/or coaching  tennis at the collegiate level

  2. Experience planning, developing, and administering budgets

  3. Experience using personal computers and basic software packages

  4. Significant tennis recruiting experience

  5. Head coaching experience

  6. Fundraising experience
