The Commissioner oversees all aspects of the virtual conference office and directly supervises the Assistant Commissioner, a full-time position. The primary responsibilities include:

1. Advancing the Conference's mission

2. Ensuring member institution's; activities align with MIAA and NCAA Division III philosophies

3. Fostering strong relationships with key stakeholders, including:

o Directors of Athletics

o Faculty Athletic Representatives

o Senior Woman Administrators

o Athletics Administrators

o Coaches

o Student-athletes on the MIAA Student-Athlete Advisory Council

The Commissioner oversees all aspects of the virtual conference office and directly supervises the Assistant

Commissioner, a full-time position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Strategic Leadership

  • Lead regular strategic planning processes and guide the Conference toward achieving articulated objectives

  • Monitor potential risk exposures and advise the Presidents' Council on recommended actions

  • Cultivate strategic relationships with other conferences and the NCAA, keeping league stakeholders informed of trends and key issues in Division III

2. Administration

  • Ensure intercollegiate activities at MIAA member institutions align with league and NCAA Division III philosophies, rules, and regulations

  • Oversee all operational, financial, and legal affairs of the Conference

  • Recruit, train, and supervise Conference staff to effectively administer and promote league-sponsored sports

  • Manage the Conference's annual business calendar, including bi-annual meetings of various committees and councils

3. Fiscal Management

  • Develop and submit annual Conference operations budget for approval

  • Manage member institution dues and fees

  • Oversee all Conference funds and authorize expenditures

  • Provide bi-annual financial reports to the Presidents' Council

  • Administer NCAA DIII Conference Grant and secure additional NCAA funding for diversity initiatives

4. Compliance and Education

  • Act as the Conference's chief rules compliance and enforcement officer

  • Educate members on, monitor compliance with, and enforce MIAA and NCAA legislation

  • Foster a culture of sportsmanship and fair play

  • Manage the hardship waiver process in conjunction with Faculty Athletic Representatives

5. NCAA and Professional Association Relations

  • Represent MIAA at NCAA events and within the DIII Commissioners' Association

  • Participate in and promote attendance at NCAA educational programs

  • Engage with NCAA and professional organizations through committee work and leadership roles

  • Encourage involvement of member institution personnel in NCAA committees and professional organizations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution; Master's degree or

equivalent preferred. At least five years of relevant and transferable experience.
