Mercer University's Athletics Department is searching for qualified candidates to fill multiple Student-Athlete Support Specialist (graduate assistant) positions in our Student-Athlete Support Services office beginning Summer of 2025. The graduate assistant will work with other members of our team to provide academic support to Mercer student-athletes.
Responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
Conducting weekly academic meetings with all first-year, transfer, and at-risk student-athletes from specified teams
Preparing weekly academic meeting notes to be shared with coaching staff and other support team members
Overseeing resources such as tutoring, supplemental instruction, and professor office hours
Monitoring study hall daily, including some evening hours
Assisting with academic advising to prepare for priority registration periods, which includes course schedule creation and academic progress checks
Preparing academic success plans for student-athletes who show signs of being at-risk
Assisting with academic recruiting presentations and visits for prospective student-athletes
Coordinating and assisting with various game day operations.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree and acceptance into an approved Mercer University graduate degree program.
The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the following areas:
College athletics, ideally with a desire to work in academic advising or support
Working with diverse populations
Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Managing multiple responsibilities/tasks
The ability to comprehend and analyze curriculum requirements for degree completion
Working independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established deadlines
The ability to handle sensitive materials and information in a confidential manner
Knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility requirements
