
McPherson College seeks an enthusiastic and creative individual to serve as the Sports Information Intern within the Athletics Department for the 2026–2027 academic year. This position supports the Director of Athletic Communications in key areas including writing, statistics management, broadcasting, and creative media production.
The Sports Information Intern plays an essential role in telling the story of McPherson College Athletics through digital content, live event coverage, and multimedia production. This position provides hands-on experience in collegiate athletics communications and offers opportunities to build professional networks within the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference (KCAC) and the NAIA.
The ideal candidate is a motivated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for athletics and sports communications. They bring strong communication, writing, and creative media skills, along with a willingness to learn and contribute new ideas.
They are comfortable working in fast-paced environments, meeting deadlines, and balancing multiple responsibilities—especially during live events. This individual demonstrates creativity, professionalism, and strong technical abilities in areas such as graphic design, video production, and broadcasting.
A successful candidate will be an effective communicator, collaborative team member, and positive ambassador for McPherson College Athletics.
Athletic Communications & Content (40%)
Assist in maintaining the athletics website (macbulldogs.com), including game recaps, press releases, schedules, rosters, and statistics
Serve as the primary communications contact for assigned sports
Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and quality of digital content in alignment with institutional standards
Game Operations & Statistics (25%)
Maintain statistics for selected athletic events using platforms such as NCAA LiveStats and PrestoStats
Support game-day operations and reporting requirements
Social Media & Creative Media (20%)
Provide real-time social media updates during games and events
Contribute to the development of creative digital content and graphics
Assist in video production, including interviews with student-athletes, coaches, and staff
Broadcasting & Production (15%)
Assist in the production of livestream broadcasts for home athletic events
Support technical operations in the production truck and related broadcast equipment
Bachelor’s degree required (or near completion), preferably in Communications, Sports Management, or Creative Media
Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Experience working in a collegiate athletics department or similar setting
Familiarity with sports statistics platforms (NCAA LiveStats, PrestoStats)
Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator) and video editing tools
Experience in broadcasting or live event production
Ability to analyze data and translate insights into content and reporting
Strong understanding of social media platforms and content strategy
The basic work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Evening and weekend hours are required to support athletic events. This position may also require travel to select away competitions throughout the academic year.
