The Head Coach, Women’s Tennis is responsible for the development and success of the women’s tennis program. Responsible for all aspects of the program including planning, organizing, recruiting, developing, and coaching the team. Fosters a culture of excellence, integrity, accountability, teamwork and sportsmanship. Teaches technical skills, tactical concepts, and life skills to develop student-athletes in and out of the classroom. Provides dynamic, strategic and visionary leadership. The head coach serves as the ambassador of the program, the department and the university locally and nationally.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

1. Coach and prepare players for competitions. Motivate and provide guidance and assistance to all members of the team.

 

2. Identify, evaluate and attract talented student athletes. Ability to evaluate talent and recruit student-athletes that can be successful at Marquette. Conduct off-campus recruitment visits and host on-campus visits.

 

3. Prepare a competition schedule within established parameters. Work directly with the sport administrator regarding administrative decisions, especially travel, marketing initiatives, media relations issues and special (fundraising) events. Promote tennis and Marquette working with media relations and marketing staff.

 

4. Ensure the eligibility of the student-athletes in accordance with NCAA , BIG EAST Conference and Marquette University rules. Recommend the assignment of financial aid for each student athlete within the guidelines and limits available. Provide continued oversight of academic admissions and performance of student-athletes through graduation.

 

5. Responsible for basic financial /budget activities for team. Provides recommendations regarding the sports budget. May supervise student employees/student managers.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

Bachelor’s degree

 

Minimum of 6 years demonstrated successful experience coaching tennis at Division 1 level.

 

Ability to use discretion and judgement to facilitate activities and maintain confidentiality.

 

Ability to develop positive and strategic relationships within the organization.

 

Familiarity with budget reporting.
