Assistant Men's & Women's Tennis Coach/Assistant in Athletics Facilities

Assistant Tennis Coach to administer all aspects of the Luther College tennis programs, including coaching, recruiting student-athletes, practice and game organization, arranging team travel, and promoting academic success and retention. Responsible for building and maintaining a successful tennis program and providing energetic leadership and inclusivity for students on the field, in the classroom, and in the community.

Assist the facilities team with regular cleaning of indoor athletics facilities floor surfaces including, but not limited to, the Sports and Recreation Center, competition gym, practice gyms, Legends Center, and Aquatics Center. Assist Facilities Services with Regents Center event tasks, and other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assistant Women’s and Men’s Tennis Coach (0.50 FTE)

  • Provides leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.

  • Directs and provides the planning, organizing and coaching of the tennis programs.

  • Establishes future match schedules with the head coach.

  • Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary and personal matters; consults with college administration and faculty.

  • Responsible for assisting to manage any student-employees.

  • Assist head coach with managing the operating budget for the tennis programs.

  • Assist head coach with successful recruitment of potential tennis student-athletes.

  • Follows Luther College and Luther College Athletics DEI plans and implements additional initiatives for diversity, equity and inclusion within the tennis programs with recruiting and current roster and staff.

  • Promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program to include adhering to all departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of the American Rivers Conference and NCAA Division III.

  • Develops and implements retention strategies for current student-athletes within the athletic department and partner departments on campus.

  • Develop and maintain very positive and professional customer service and relations within the department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, and staff. Demonstrate a positive and professional attitude.

 
Assistant in Athletics Facilities (0.31 FTE)

  • Regular cleaning of athletic floor surfaces such as gymnasiums, Sports and Recreation Center, Legends Fitness Center, and aquatic center.

  • Occasional cleaning of Regents Center hallways, lobbies, and other high traffic areas.

  • Event details to include, but not limited to:

  • Unlock/lock building and turn on/off lights

    • Assist with emptying trash receptacles and disposing of trash

    • Restock restroom supplies

    • Assist with set-ups for Regents Center events

    • Assist with clean-up of messes caused by event.

    • Snow removal and maintain outside entrances

  • Other duties as assigned

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and assist to hire student-managers (tennis student-work positions)

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS:

  • Education: A Bachelor’s Degree and training and work experience within the tennis area.

  • Experience: Previous experience recruiting and coaching tennis at the collegiate level is preferred

  • Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • May require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as noise, extreme temperatures, inclement weather, and other adversities as the incumbent performs duties and responsibilities in both indoor and outdoor settings as well as occasional lifting up to 50 pounds and/or the ability to lift, carry, push, or otherwise move objects with a limited amount of force.

  • Buildings and grounds are smoke free

  • May have exposure to potentially hazardous chemicals, dust and fumes
