Head Men’s & Women’s Track & Field Coach

 

LOCATION: Longview, TX

REPORTS TO: Vice President of Athletics (or his/her designee)

SCHEDULE: Office hours are primarily weekdays, but responsibilities require additional hours and significant flexibility, including evenings and weekends.

DUTIES: Responsible for the leadership and development of staff and student athletes including:

Discipleship

· Discipleship of 2 full-time employees (XC head coach & Track assistant coach), 1 graduate assistant, and student athletes in the program, to facilitate spiritual growth in each employee and student athlete

· Teaching and modeling the value of Christian competition to the track staff, and student athletes

· Counseling team members in disciplinary, academic, or personal matters while consulting with LETU administration on matters requiring resolution of problems

Excellence

· Strive to ensure we are the most successful program in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) in all facets, with an expectation of becoming nationally competitive

· Prepare student-athletes in the of specific event analyses and related planning strategies

Recruiting

· Identify, research, evaluate, and recruit prospective student athletes who can thrive in the LeTourneau University environment while excelling as Christians, scholars, and athletes

· Filling a roster that will not only meet sport sponsorship in every sport, but also score in meets that leads to wins

· Accountable for the retention of student athletes with the program

· Recruit, develop, and evaluate assistant coaches to maximize student athlete development

Service

· Regularly serve in the department in any area as needed, including spiritual development, air dome management, home events oversight, and fundraising activities

· Demonstrate support for the development and overall growth of the athletic department in tangible ways

· Create annual service and mission opportunities for student athletes to invest in the community

Administrative Effectiveness

· Manage the track and field staff to ensure the professional development of each direct report that should lead to an efficient, discipleship driven culture of excellence

· Monitoring academic progress and acting as a liaison to the program

· Ensure compliance with the University, SCAC, and NCAA policies and regulations

· Oversight of all team budgets, while monitoring, verifying, and reconciling expenditures of budgeted funds

· Coordinate the scheduling, planning and management of home and away events

· Participation in the planning, organizing, leading, and evaluating all activities for general operations and event management on Dome related activities for intercollegiate games, campus user events and rental events

· Assist with preparation of bid materials and budgets for the conference and NCAA post-season playoffs, tournaments, etc.

· Active engagement with alumni, coordinating at least 2 events per year, along with a quarterly newsletter in concert with Alumni Relations

· Performing other duties as requested by the Vice President of Athletics, or Assistant AD for the Air Dome

QUALIFICATIONS: LeTourneau University seeks a person with an enthusiastic and contagious Christian faith committed to a Christian higher education that integrates Christian faith with learning.

1.      Bachelor’s degree is required; master’s degree preferred

2.      3-5 years of related experience, preferably in the coaching of athletic programs at the collegiate level

3.      Excellent ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students, and faculty members

4.      Exemplifying an elite level of professionalism

5.      Ability to be a dynamic leader within the athletic department

6.      Strong prioritization and organizational skills

7.      Good written and oral communication skills

8.      Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to NCAA Division III

9.      An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
