Primary Objective:
The SID will play a key role in elevating the visibility of Lawrence Athletics through media relations, digital content, live streaming, and statistical services. The position requires a forward-thinking communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces collaboration, and is committed to advancing the mission of Division III athletics and Lawrence University.
Job Responsibilities:
Coordinating the collection, organization, and dissemination of information for all varsity sports.
Serving as the primary point of contact for media relations, ensuring timely distribution of news releases, feature stories, and event results.
Developing and maintaining positive relationships with local, regional, and national media outlets to promote Lawrence Athletics.
Maintaining accurate statistics, records, and historical archives for all sports.
Producing athletic publications including record books, media guides, game programs, and promotional materials.
Overseeing and updating the athletics website and managing content across official social media platforms.
Supervising, training, and mentoring student staff, including interns, photographers, videographers, and game-day assistants. This includes developing work schedules, setting performance expectations, and creating a professional learning environment for students to gain hands-on experience in athletic communications.
Collaborating with professional staff across the department to ensure comprehensive coverage of events, special projects, and storytelling efforts, including coordinated work with colleagues.
Directing video streaming and video replay productions, ensuring quality broadcasts in compliance with conference and NCAA requirements.
Managing graphic and video content creation for digital platforms and in-game presentations.
Exploring the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence tools, to improve efficiency, accuracy, and creativity in content development, statistical reporting, and fan engagement.
Preparing and monitoring the sports information department budget.
Assisting with departmental fundraising and sponsorship initiatives.
Providing game-day coverage and supporting overall event management as needed.
Traveling with teams and attending athletic events as appropriate.
Knowledge of marketing, communications, and media relations strategies.
Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., NCAA Genius, Presto, StatCrew).
Proficiency in design, publication, and multimedia platforms (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Gipper, BoxOut).
Familiarity with video streaming and editing software (e.g., FloSports, BlueFrame).
Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to adapt messaging to diverse audiences.
Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work evenings/weekends as required.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across campus and within the community.
Employment Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
Experience in sports information, athletic communications, or a related field.
Familiarity with NCAA Division III athletics preferred.
Must successfully complete a criminal and MVR background check, meet University Authorized Driver Policy requirements, and complete reference checks.
