Lawrence Technological University, an NAIA Institution and member of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, is accepting applications for a dynamic Head Men’s Volleyball Coach. This position will report to the Director of Athletics. The Head Men’s Volleyball Coach supports the mission of the college by leading and managing all aspects of the men’s volleyball program while integrating data analytics to optimize performance, strategy, and recruitment of talented student-athletes and retaining them as well overseeing team practices and games, fostering a positive team culture, manage operating budgets, and ensuring the overall success and growth of the program. The Head Men’s Volleyball Coach provides the strategic oversight, supervision, guidance, and leadership to the Assistant Men’s Volleyball Coaches.
They will serve as a Campus Security Authority as outlined by the Clery Act.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
Evaluate, recruit, coach, and mentor qualified student-athletes and prepare the team for a full intercollegiate men’s volleyball experience.
Use tools like Hudl and Volleymetrics to assess team and individual performance, develop tailored training plans, and identify key improvement areas.
Oversee all aspects of the men’s volleyball program operations, including, but not limited to, the development and management of all part-time, volunteer, and student assistant coaching staff, ensuring adherence to the program’s analytical and competitive vision.
Develop and execute a comprehensive recruitment plan for the entire men’s volleyball staff, ensuring a robust and competitive roster from the local, regional, and national landscape. Utilize performance data and analytics to identify and attract talented student-athletes who align with the program’s goals.
Ensure a culture of compliance around all NAIA, WHAC, and Lawrence Technological rules and regulations, and ensure all coaching staff members and student-athletes do the same.
Oversee student-athlete academic progress, be available for consultation/support for student-athletes, and direct student-athletes to the appropriate academic professionals to ensure academic success.
Enhance program visibility. Represent the program at alumni, community, and fundraising events, providing data-driven insights to highlight team achievements.
Develop yearly, non-conference game schedules to ensure high-level competition in preparation for the postseason.
Select and purchase all equipment necessary to ensure a competitive men’s volleyball program while being fiscally responsible.
Collaborate with the Director of Athletics and other coaches to work on a on court schedule that works for everyone.
Work closely with Yellowflag Productions and our Sports Information Director to develop a media plan and be available for interviews and speaking engagements to internal and external constituents
Serve on departments and campus-wide committees as requested, as well as other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversight of full-time, part-time, graduate assistants, and volunteer coaches
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelor’s degree is required. Three to five years of coaching experience in the collegiate setting and/or at a highly respected high school program. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. The ability to work non-traditional hours, including late night and weekends. Enthusiasm and willingness to develop, initiate, and actively recruit, retain, and develop student-athletes. Commitment to work and educate inclusively with a diverse student population. Sound administrative and supervisory skills.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Must have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must also have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Ability to type and use computer programs such as word processing (MS Office Suite preferred), e-mail, spreadsheets, and the ability to learn other programs pertinent to the position. Must be organized and be able to prioritize work, good communication skills, both written and oral, ability to deal with people from various age groups, backgrounds, and levels of education. Proficiency with volleyball analytic tools, including Hudl and Volleymetrics, for performance evaluation and strategic planning. Familiarity with data analysis tools such as Excel, Tableau, or other relevant platforms for tracking performance metrics and generating reports.

Communication skills
(both oral and written), Organizational skills and the ability to handle changing priorities are essential for success in this position. This position may require working evenings and some weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday), especially during peak times of campus activity. Vacation time may not be approved during said peak activity.
