Business Manager, Athletics

About This Role:
The Athletics Business Manager reports directly to the CFO for Athletics and serves as a strategic partner and operations leader within the Athletics Business Office. The successful candidate will maintain accurate records concerning fiscal operations in compliance with NCAA, Conference, Lamar University, and Texas State University System rules and regulations.

What You’ll Do – Position Responsibilities:

  • Financial Coordination and Reporting 

    • Coordinate and support business functions for the Athletics Department, including budgeting, financial reporting, pro-card transactions, encumbrances, personnel records, ticket operations, and courtesy vehicle mileage reporting.

    • Collaborate with university Finance staff to disseminate financial information to relevant stakeholders on a recurring basis.

    • Assist with preparing department revenue and expense data for the EADA Report, NCAA Financial Reports, and internal reporting requirements.

  • Administrative and Procurement Support 

    • Submit requisitions, invoices, travel requests, contracts, and applicable documentation to campus finance and travel departments.

    • Review and approve all deposits while ensuring proper financial controls are established and maintained

  • Strategic Planning and Operations 

    • Assist leadership with strategic planning and drafting internal policies and procedures to optimize departmental operations.

    • Serve as a liaison to external partners, including the outbound ticket sales partner, apparel contractor, and other key stakeholders.

  • Other Duties 

    • Perform other duties as assigned by the CFO for Athletics and Athletic Director to address the evolving needs of the department and university.

Physical Requirements:

  • This position requires sitting and standing for extended periods of time and lifting up to twenty-five pounds while performing duties as described within the essential functions.

Job Conditions:

  • Duties are typically performed within athletics facilities and other buildings or outdoors as required.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate’s Degree in a field relevant to the position summary and essential job functions (e.g., Business, Finance, Accounting, or Sports Management).

  • 3 years of progressively increasing responsibility and experience in collegiate athletics business operations, higher education business operations, or closely related experience.

  • 5 years of related experience can substitute for an associate degree and 3 years of experience.
