WSF Tara VanDerveer Grant - XC/Track and Field Full Time Assistant Coach

Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA DIII level and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.

 

The Hopkins Athletics Department seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Assistant Cross Country / Track & Field Coach. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Development, and coaching and teaching of the sport, with a focus on distance athletes, and preferred versatility and knowledge of other track and field events.

  • Complete all grant program requirements including meetings with mentor and professional development opportunities.

  • Understand the role of intercollegiate athletics in a highly competitive academic environment and assist student-athletes in achieving exceptionally high athletic and academic goals

  • Coordinate player development through skill enhancement in training sessions

  • Assist head coach in the development and organization of practice planning and meet strategies

  • Analyze video and statistical data to further develop and improve individual as well as team performances

  • Assist head coach in conducting pre-season, in-season and post-season player and team evaluations

  • Continued monitoring of team’s recruiting database and assist in coordinating on-campus recruiting visits for prospects

  • Assist in coordinating on-campus recruiting visits for prospects

  • Exhibit strong communication and leadership skills and build and sustain positive relationships with student-athletes, faculty, and staff

  • Maintain and ensure compliance with the University’s policies, the Centennial Conference policies and the NCAA rules and regulations

  • Handle other responsibilities as assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

  • Prior experience coaching and recruiting at a high academic institution preferred

  • Must have the ability to work nights, weekends, and holiday work

  • Travel is also required.  A valid drivers’ license and ability to drive a vehicle is required.

  • All candidates should be able to lift and move equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds

 

KEY RELATIONSHIPS:

The Assistant Coach is directly supervised by the Head Coach and will be mentored by the Deputy Athletic Director. This position has significant interactions with faculty and staff, students, alumni, and other outside constituencies.

 

PHYSICAL EFFORT/ENVIRONMENT:

General office, athletic facility, and campus environment. Operates on turf, grass, gymnasium, and training rooms. The position will require work outside and in inclement weather. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and occasional lifting is required. Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required. The position will be a full-time (benefitted), fiscal year appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor. This position is funded by the Women’s Sports Foundation - Tara VanDerveer Fund for the Advancement of Women in Coaching with a $30,000 salary.
