Hopkins Athletics is a multidivisional department with 22 programs competing at the NCAA Division III level and two programs (men’s and women’s lacrosse) competing at the NCAA Division I level (BIG 10 Conference). The department also hosts a variety of robust recreational activities such as club sports, intramurals, and fitness programming.
The Hopkins Athletics department seeks an innovative and forward-thinking Head Volleyball Coach. The employee must operate within the framework of a best-in-class athletic department at Johns Hopkins University. The Head Volleyball Coach is tasked with the leadership, continued growth, and success of the Johns Hopkins volleyball program. Adherence to the athletics department philosophy and compliance with department operating standards are essential. Demonstrating adherence to the facility and staff schedule, equipment and facility maintenance expectations and communication responsibilities are required. The strongest candidates will have a demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced, team-based environment and a strong history of building and sustaining relationships with staff, scholar-athletes, and coaches.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Development of the volleyball team; practice planning, training sessions, scheduling contests, monitoring budget, establishing effective communication with team and staff members.
Develop and implement a comprehensive skill development program for all volleyball team members.
Oversees all aspects of program recruitment; evaluate, identify and recruit potential scholar-athletes that meet the academic profile of the university and will contribute to the vibrancy of the campus community.
Operation of the program within all rules/regulations/applicable policies of the NCAA, Centennial Conference, and the institution.
Mentorship, supervision, and direction of assistant coaches, team members, and managers.
Holistic development of scholar-athletes, to include facilitating connections to campus resources where appropriate that support their academic success, professional growth, and personal well-being.
Collaboration with athletic development staff to establish fundraising priorities while implementing appropriate cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies in accordance with department and institutional standards.
Proactive partnership with all administrative areas of the department: finance, HR, development and alumni relations, athletic training, strength & conditioning, athletic communications, facilities, event management, equipment, and compliance.
Exhibition of leadership, sportsmanship, and professional conduct at all times.
Cultivation of a fair, objective, and supportive relationship with all team members.
Promotion of a safe and inclusive team environment for all members.
Oversight and control of all program equipment and uniforms.
Other responsibilities/duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree.
Three years collegiate varsity coaching experience.
Current and valid CPR/AED certifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Seven years collegiate varsity coaching experience and three years collegiate varsity head coaching experience preferred.
· Experience competing in volleyball at the collegiate level preferred.
Key Relationships:
The Head Volleyball Coach is directly supervised by the Associate Athletic Director for Facilities and Events.
Physical Effort/Environment:
General office, athletic facility, and campus environment. Position involves sitting, although frequent movement is necessary. Walking, standing, bending, twisting, and lifting up to 50 pounds in coaching and training situations is required. Computer usage involving repetitive and/wrist motion is required. The position will be a full-time, twelve-month appointment, with frequent evening and weekend work required throughout the year with those dates determined by a supervisor.
