Assistant Athletic Director — Fan Engagement, Sports Marketing & Promotion
Job description:
The Assistant Athletic Director for Fan Engagement, Sports Marketing & Promotion is responsible for developing and executing strategic initiatives that build and sustain fan engagement, enhance the Hampton University Athletics brand, and grow revenue through innovative marketing and promotional campaigns. This role leads fan experience strategy, oversees digital and experiential marketing efforts, creates compelling storytelling across platforms, and collaborates with internal and external partners to maximize visibility, attendance, and support for all Pirate athletic programs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Develop and implement year-round fan engagement strategies for live events, digital platforms, and community outreach.
Oversee game day experience enhancements, including theme nights, interactive fan activities, student engagement, and family entertainment components.
Collaborate with ticketing, facilities, and event operations to ensure seamless fan experiences.
Lead the creation and execution of integrated marketing plans to increase attendance, brand awareness, and community participation across sports.
Manage all advertising campaigns, promotional materials, and strategic communications.
Coordinate promotional calendars, email campaigns, signage, and special offers in alignment with institutional priorities.
Oversee marketing efforts for seasonal campaigns, ticket sales initiatives, and targeted audience segments (e.g., students, alumni, families, corporate partners).
Direct digital content strategy across official athletics social accounts, website, and mobile platforms.
Work with creative and communications professionals to produce engaging content (video, graphics, written) that enhances brand visibility.
Serve as a liaison with student organizations, local schools, youth groups, and community partners to foster engagement and support.
Represent Hampton University Athletics at community events to strengthen visibility and relationships.
Develop, manage, and monitor the departmental fan engagement and marketing budget.
Supervise and mentor staff, interns, and student workers within the marketing and fan engagement areas.
Establish performance goals, evaluate staff, and provide professional development
Required Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, or related field.
· Minimum of 3–5 years of progressive experience in collegiate athletics marketing, fan engagement, event promotion, or related roles.
· Demonstrated success in driving attendance growth and implementing innovative engagement strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
· Master’s degree in Sport Administration, Business, or related discipline.
· Experience within NCAA Division I athletics
· Proven experience with digital analytics, CRM platforms, and integrated marketing technologies

· Strong strategic and creative thinker with ability to translate vision into action.
· Excellent communication skills (written, oral, presentation).
· Proficient in digital marketing tools, social media platforms, analytics, and content creation.
· Exceptional interpersonal skills — able to build relationships with internal units, external partners, and diverse audiences.
· Strong project management, prioritization, and organizational skills.
· Commitment to enhancing the student-athlete and fan experience.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
· This position requires frequent evening and weekend work, including travel to select events, recruiting functions, and community engagements.
