Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach

About the Job:

The Head Women's Lacrosse Coach provides strategic leadership, development, and administrative oversight for the collegiate women's lacrosse program. This role is responsible for ensuring competitive success in intercollegiate athletics while fostering a comprehensive, supportive environment that promotes athletic excellence, academic achievement, and the personal and spiritual growth of all student-athletes in alignment with George Fox University's "Be Known" promise.


Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • On-field coaching and athletic development (40%)

    • Leading the strategic planning, scheduling, and execution of all practices, training sessions, and competitive contests.

    • Teaching, mentoring, and coaching student-athletes in sport-specific skills, team strategies, and sportsmanship.

    • Designing and implementing effective game plans and adjustments during competitions.

    • Monitoring and supporting student-athlete academic progress, retention, and graduation rates in collaboration with academic support services.

  • Logistics & Operations Management (20%)

    • Coordinating and managing all team travel logistics, including transportation, lodging, and meal arrangements for away contests.

    • Developing and managing the annual competition schedule in alignment with Northwest Conference (NWC) and NCAA regulations.

    • Collaborating with the athletic training staff to ensure the health, safety, and physical well-being of student-athletes.

  • Recruitment & Talent Identification (20%)

    • Developing and executing a comprehensive, year-round recruitment plan to attract high-caliber, academically and athletically qualified student-athletes.

    • Utilizing equitable practices to identify, evaluate, and recruit diverse talent nationally and regionally.

    • Maintaining regular, compliant communication with prospective student-athletes, their families, and high school/club coaches.

  • Compliance & Program Administration (5%)

    • Ensuring strict compliance with all NCAA Division III, Northwest Conference (NWC), and George Fox University rules and regulations.

    • Overseeing program administrative functions, including NCAA eligibility documentation, roster management, and timely completion of departmental paperwork.

    • Partnering with Sports Marketing, Sports Information, and Public Relations to promote the lacrosse program and celebrate student-athlete achievements.

  • Personnel Management & Leadership (5%)

    • Recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating assistant coaching staff and student workers.

    • Fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and professional work environment within the coaching staff.

    • Delegating administrative and coaching duties effectively to assistant staff.

  • Budgeting & Fundraising (5%)

    • Formulating, proposing, and managing the annual women's lacrosse operational budget with fiscal responsibility.

    • In coordination with Athletic Development, leading program-specific fundraising initiatives, alumni engagement, and community outreach events to supplement operational costs.

  • Summer Camps & Community Engagement (5%)

    • Hosting, marketing, and operating at least one Bruin Sports Camp for women's lacrosse each summer to engage the community and generate revenue.

    • Acting as a positive ambassador for George Fox University athletics within the local and broader lacrosse community.

  • Conducting the program within the stated philosophy and established guidelines set forth by George Fox University and NCAA Division III.

  • Participating in professional development opportunities, including coaching clinics, seminars, and safety certifications, to remain current in the sport.

  • Articulating the mission of the George Fox University athletic program in ways that align with the "Be Known" vision of the University.

  • Modeling a highly relational Christian witness to the university's students, employees, and external community. By actions, words, and lifestyle, serve as a positive role model to students through both casual contact and formal leadership roles.

  • Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.

  • By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.

  • Demonstrated experience working cross-culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.

  • Other duties as assigned.


A day in the life of this position:

The Head Women's Lacrosse Coach position is a highly diverse role which varies day-to-day, in-season, and out-of-season. This individual must model a life of learning, integrity and service around the person and work of Jesus Christ. Student-athletes are our primary focus and therefore this position requires an immense amount of availability to help coach, educate and mentor. Our Head Women's Lacrosse Coach must excel in organizational and analytical skills to assist with program administrative functions and recruiting. This is a highly visible position within the community.


We're looking for candidates who have:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

  • Proven organizational and administrative skills, including basic budget management and proficiency with standard office technology/software.

  • Demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively, courteously, and professionally in English (both orally and in writing) with a diverse range of stakeholders, including students, parents, staff, alumni, and the public.

  • The ability to obtain and maintain CPR/AED and First Aid certifications, as well as pass the NCAA Division III Rules Test annually.

  • A clean driving record along with the ability to provide proof of a valid driver's license and pass the University Driver Certification.

  • Legal authorization to work in the United States. This position does not offer visa sponsorship; therefore, only applicants who do not require sponsorship for employment visas, now or at any point in the future, should apply.

  • A commitment to the University's Theology of Racial and Ethnic Diversity.

Preference Will be Given to Those Who Have the Following Attributes:

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution.

  • 3+ years of coaching and recruiting experience at the collegiate level, with a demonstrated track record of student-athlete development and competitive success.

  • Demonstrated experience working with, recruiting, or mentoring student-athletes from diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and geographic backgrounds.

Job information:

  • Hours Per Week: 40 hours (1.0 FTE)

    • This position requires irregular office hours including after-hours and weekend work to attend competitions, practices, etc.

  • Primary Work Location: Newberg Campus

    • Local and national travel is required.

  • Working Conditions: Physical requirements could include lifting more than 25 pounds and performing any activities such as balancing, bending/stooping, climbing stairs, crawling, crouching, climbing ladders, kneeling, repetitive motion or reaching above shoulder level.
