
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The Athletic Compliance Office Graduate Assistant will provide support for NCAA eligibility of all programs (19 varsity teams and approximately 550 student-athletes). Specifically, this position will assist with the academic eligibility evaluation process, including the development and implementation of policies related to the evaluation process, as well as evaluating transcripts of prospective student-athletes and transfer students. They will assist the Director of Student Athlete Academic Services and the Assistant Registrar with the academic eligibility process for all sports, including updating NCAA Compliance Assistant, Workday software, Teamworks/Compliance & Recruiting software, and communicating eligibility statuses.
COMPENSATION
Includes 18 credit hours graduate tuition/fees annually, room/board and a $1,000.00 monthly stipend. This is a 12-month assistantship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Evaluate transcripts (both complete and in-progress) for all incoming student-athletes, including freshmen and transfer students, to determine eligibility in compliance with applicable regulations and institutional requirements. Reviews are to be completed promptly in accordance with program and department policies.
When applicable, evaluate prospective student-athlete transcripts at an early stage in the recruiting process to help answer questions regarding graduation timeline, eligibility, progress towards degree, and other institutional and NCAA requirements.
Assist in creating rules education materials and assist with administrative duties (scanning, workflows, weekly meetings).
Monitor Student Athlete Study Hall.
Assist with researching and filing NCAA and MIAA waivers.
Assist with the compilation of NCAA annual reports - NCAA Academic Performance Census (APC) and Graduation Success Rate (GSR).
Assist with SAAC – Student Athlete Advisory Committee.
In addition to excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills, the successful candidate will possess critical thinking skills, be resourceful, and work effectively with cross-functional teams, fostering teamwork. The candidate must exhibit high integrity, confidentiality and ethical behavior in accordance with NCAA, Conference and institutional policies. They must possess excellent written and oral communication skills along with a high level of organization and attention to detail.
This position periodically requires availability on game days/nights and weekends.
Present to groups of recruits and/or teams (as needed).
Perform other related duties as assigned.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of NCAA academic requirements and the ability to interpret and disseminate information as needed regarding NCAA DII Academic Eligibility requirements and standards. Experience with NCAA Compliance Assistant software. Experience with Teamworks applications. Exposure to intercollegiate athletics.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
This position requires a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university and admission to the FHSU Graduate School to pursue a Master’s Degree.
