Assistant Baseball Coach - Graduate Assistant

GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

 

This position is responsible for assisting with the organization, development, and administration of all functions related to coaching a competitive Division II Baseball program.   Fundamental duties include, but are not limited to, coaching, monitor provided pitching program, recruiting student-athletes, commitment to the academic and athletic success of student-athletes, student-athlete development, assisting or directing camps and clinics, and overall baseball operations.  This position collaborates with intercollegiate athletics staff members, sports medicine and performance staff, academic support staff, compliance staff, and institutional partners.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1.            Aid in the organization and supervision of all aspects of the baseball program.

2.      Supervises student-athletes during practices and games, observing and evaluating performance and

demonstrating proper techniques.

3.      Supports and monitors the academic performance of student-athletes in conjunction with the compliance and

academic support staff.

4.      Help in the recruitment process – identification, evaluation, recruitment, and retention of prospective student-

athletes.  

6.      Enhances the student-athlete experience through team expectations, personal development, and opportunities,

such as but not limited to community service, team building, leadership development, etc.

7.      Assists in directing camps and clinics.

8.      Responsible for providing support with scheduling of practices, team and recruiting travel arrangements, and

student-athlete meetings.

9.      Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all Athletic Department efforts to

monitor compliance with NCAA regulations.

10.     Responsible for compliance with NCAA, MIAA, and institutional rules and regulations, ensuring program

compliance.  

11.     Active member of the FHSU Athletic Department and University, while representing the university and baseball

program in a professional manner.

12.       Study, learn and manage provided pitching development plan during practice, monitor arm care, throwing program, and bullpens sessions (when necessary) , and daily pitcher routines.

13.       Field work duties (mowing, edging, etc.)

14.       Learning program technology and collection of data (Rapsodo), video (Awre) capture, editing, and clipping during practice sessions, scrimmages and games.

15.       Gameday chart responsibilities.

16.     Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
Relevant, successful playing or coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate or professional level.  Proven ability to teach sport-specific skills and develop successful competitive strategies. Strong communication skills (written and oral), a high level of organization, and attention to detail are required. Must be driven, willing to learn, reliable and able to throw quality BP.  Must be accepted into graduate school at FHSU.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree in a related field.  Relevant, successful playing or coaching experience is required. 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Those associated with coaching a competitive collegiate baseball team, including active participation in practice.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
General office conditions.  General athletic event environments that occur indoors and outdoors.

 

COMPENSATION
On campus housing and meal plan. Graduate Tuition. $10,000 stipend.
