Assistant Athletic Director for Development

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work closely with and provide support to the Associate Athletic Director for Development to develop and pursue on-going fundraising plans and priorities.

  • Manage portfolios of gift prospects, including individuals, corporations, foundations, season ticket holders, and annual donors to Athletics.

  • Develop and manage relationships with coaches, staff, alumni, fans, friends, and volunteers of Eastern Michigan to grow the Eastern Athletic Fund.

  • Cultivate and steward relationships with individuals who are prospects or donors of EMU Athletics.

  • Execute annual fundraising calendar with sport specific giving initiatives.

  • Direct and manage all aspects of special events and premium experiences for football and men’s and women’s basketball.

  • Manage donor renewal and stewardship processes in collaboration with the Director of Stewardship.

  • Coordinate with the Athletics External Relations team (Marketing, Ticketing, Media Relations, Corporate Sponsorships) on Eastern Athletic Fund initiatives.

  • Oversee and execute the athletics department’s implementation of a comprehensive gift acknowledgement program and work collaboratively with the university foundation to ensure processes and procedures are being followed.

  • Participate in the department operations and external team meetings.

  • Assist in the communication and collaboration for the development team, by working and sharing information with coaches about the development and engagement process.

  • Assist with administrative tasks when needed within the athletics department, including attending events and representing the department in the community.

  • Other duties as assigned by the Associate Athletic Director for Development

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • Three years of progressively responsible work experience in development, marketing or communications.

  • Ability to manage, plan and organize, set priorities and establish work objectives, follow through on assignments; exhibit flexibility; anticipate work issues and problems; and provide leadership to projects.

  • Proficiency in personal computing skills including Google Workspace, Adobe Creative Cloud, Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point; willingness to learn donor management program and other relevant software.

  • Ability to work professionally with external constituencies while effectively presenting, listening, and communicating both orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in non-profit organization or University setting preferred.
