Graduate Assistant, Marketing & Fan Engagement

Responsibilities

Marketing

- Secondary marketing contact for men’s or women’s basketball (team TBD)

o Contribute to the creation of promotional sales plans for revenue generation

o Assist in the implementation of a year-round social media engagement plan to increase exposure and fan engagement

o Coordinate and implement in-season marketing plan to drive attendance

o Serve as the floor producer for assigned games (e.g. ensure promotions are executed)

o Assist with the management of in-game logistics (scripts, production sheets, video board activation, game atmosphere, music, etc.)

o Drive campus engagement by collaborating with campus groups

- Develop, direct, coordinate and execute marketing/attendance plans for assigned Olympic sport(s) with clearly defined goals and objectives

o Prepare and coordinate game-day promotional activities

o Manage social media channels with timely and engaging content

o Identify and implement grassroots marketing activities

o Write and develop content for use in email marketing, print, digital and social media platforms

Game Day Experience

- Contributes to atmosphere plan to drive engagement and home-court advantage including video board content planning, music, student activation

- Ensures the in-game activation of all corporate elements for assigned sports

- Oversees the coordination of game day logistics including scheduling of national anthem performers, color guard, halftime entertainment, public address announcers, and student workers

Other

- Coordinate athletics-related events to increase brand recognition and engagement across campus

- Assist in the hosting of all home events and postseason tournaments (Conference Championships and NCAA Tournaments)

- Other duties as assigned by the Directors of Marketing and Fan Engagement

Criteria for success

- Demonstrates a strong understanding of marketing plans and strategy bringing plans from creation to implementation

- Takes an active role in revenue generation

- Innovative, creative and energetic personality that will recommend and implement new ideas

- Strong focus on social media engagement as well as attendance-building efforts

- Ability to problem solve, manage multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines, and prioritize work

- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently

- Strong desire to learn new skills and take on new responsibilities

- Ability to receive feedback from colleagues to ensure well-thought-out and executed plans

- Willingness to work extended hours beyond the typical business day, nights and weekends throughout the academic year

Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (marketing, communications, sports marketing)

- At least one example of applicable marketing experience at the undergraduate or graduate level

- Enrollment in a graduate degree program with preference given to students enrolled in the MBA program, Communications or Marketing (Duquesne Athletics will fund up to six (6) credit hours in the fall and spring semesters)

- Strong interpersonal, creative and communication skills are essential, including the ability to communicate in writing

- Ability to communicate and adhere to University, Atlantic 10 Conference and NCAA policies, procedures, rules and regulations

Conditions of Employment

- Complete 25 hours of office work per week

- A commitment of two years and must be available during breaks (10-month appointments each year from August 1 – May 30 with the opportunity for summer work hours)

- Appointment is based on acceptance into a Duquesne University Master’s Program

o Six (6) credit hours per semester will be paid for by the athletics department

o A stipend will be provided for both the fall and spring semesters

- Maintain a minimum cumulative and semester GPA of 2.5

- Maintain full-time enrollment in a master’s program

- Assistantship begins on August 1, 2024, and concludes on May 31, 2025 (contingent upon a one-year renewal). Should a GA leave sooner the stipend will be pro-rated to reflect the actual date of departure.

- GA must seek managerial approval to participate in academic-related programs external to the athletic department (internships, part-time jobs, etc.)

- Outside employment is acceptable but cannot interfere with GA responsibilities. It is recommended to discuss any external employment with a manager before committing to the role.
