The Assistant AD, Broadcast Operations & Live Events serves as an integral role within DePaul Athletics in establishing, and implementing, and activating a strategic plan for live video production to promote the university and athletics department brand. The role is responsible for oversight of the staff that produces all in-venue video board productions and streamed live events, while acting as the liaison for linear network broadcasts.
What You'll Do:
Lead all live production and broadcast needs for the Athletics Department, including each of DePaul’s televised and live-streamed sporting events, special events, press conferences, and specialty media appearances. Manage scheduling of RUSH Media Company (or broadcast partner) for each live-streamed event, hiring, training, and scheduling of camera operators and broadcast assistants, and overall oversight of operations. Coordinate and vet all on-air talent for Olympic Sports, and women's basketball productions streamed on FloSports (or non-linear broadcast partner).
Serve as point of contact to the BIG EAST Conference, Associate Commissioner for Broadcasting, and FOX Sports (or broadcast partner) for all live productions and broadcast initiatives, including but not limited to: participation in all BIG EAST broadcast calls, participation in all External Staff meetings, and regular communications with RUSH Media Company, FOX Sports, FloSports, the Marquee Sports Network, and any future broadcast production partners. Serve as Athletics Department point of contact for broadcast-related questions and logistics. Verify the accuracy of all broadcast graphics packages, GIPs, logos, and in-game content with broadcast partners, television networks, and digital media websites.
Develop and implement a partnership with DePaul University's Jarvis College of Computing and Digital Media (CDM) and School of Cinematic Arts to implement interdisciplinary connections, employ student workers, and acting as a bridge for practical broadcast experience and academic application.
Develop and implement procedures and standards for broadcast operations while using the latest knowledge of industry trends to strategically advance the both operations and the university brand. Complete an annual assessment of DePaul Athletics’ broadcast capabilities, and suggest areas for improvement and the associated budget, with a focus on innovation, growth, and emerging industry trends. In partnership with the Executive Associate AD, support the broadcast readiness, A/V needs, and cabling of new athletic facilities to meet television and in-house broadcast requirements.
Collaborate with other units within the External Affairs Division of the Athletic Department, including marketing, creative content, the ticket office, merchandise/licensing, fundraising, and communications, to plan and execute content that meets department goals and objectives.
Knowledge of and adherence to all NCAA rules, policies, and procedures. Attend and participate in monthly NCAA rules compliance education meetings.
Supervise 8-12 student workers, interns, and/or part-time camera operators and broadcast production assistants. Supervision included scheduling, training, regular evaluation, and payroll management.
Manage operations of the broadcast department within stipulated annual budget.
What You'll Need:
Bachelor’s degree required.
2+ years’ relevant experience (or combination of education and experience), preferably at the NCAA Division I level.
Possess a working knowledge of NCAA and University rules and regulations as they apply to intercollegiate athletics.
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Experience with the Adobe Suite (including Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator) strongly preferred.
Ability to respect confidentiality and practice discretion.
This position will require frequent bending, moving, lifting, and carrying camera equipment weighing up to 50 pounds; standing up to eight hours each day; and working in all weather conditions.
Able to communicate well in written, oral and interpersonal communication and build rapport quickly with student athletes, faculty, coaches, and staff.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
Demonstrated experience in working in a diverse urban and/or intercollegiate athletics environment.
Dedication to serving the department, the University and the student-athletes with the highest level of leadership, initiative and integrity.
Position requires working evenings, weekends, and holidays during the school year.
