Head Softball Coach

Summary:

We are currently seeking an experienced Softball Coach who will be responsible for management and development of all aspects of an NCAA Division 3 intercollegiate women's softball program. The ideal candidate will be someone who has a passion for developing and discipling student athletes and staff to be all they can be and toward a deeper relationship with Christ, while also having the coaching drive and motivational skills to annually field competitive teams that want to win championships.

Responsibilities:

Discipleship

  • Discipleship of female student athletes in the program to facilitate spiritual growth.

  • Teaching and modeling the value of Christian competition.

  • Monitoring academic performance of student athletes and partnering with Student Development for discipleship, development and retention of student athletes.

  • Foster a community of God's people who grow in His grace. Work before students and others as unto the Lord, particularly in attitude while encouraging them to hold a high view of work.

Recruiting

  • Recruiting and retaining quality student athletes who understand and embrace Covenant College's mission and vision.

  • Find student athletes that are equipped with the ability to achieve academic and athletic success.

  • Overseeing all aspects of both varsity and junior varsity teams with a total target roster of 36 students athletes for the softball program.

Excellence

  • Regularly fielding a highly competitive team within the Collegiate Conference of the South.

  • On-field coaching, instruction and skill development of student-athletes.

  • Opponent scouting.

  • Hiring and supervising assistant coaches, including a full time assistant.

Service

  • Contributing and caring for the development and growth of the athletic department as a whole in tangible ways.

  • Creating service and mission opportunities for student athletes to invest in the community.

  • If an Athletic Administrative Role is required within the Athletic Department, this position will be assigned by the Director of Athletics. This position will require that an average of 10 hours per week be dedicated to this role. Examples of possible roles include but are not limited to: game day management, intramurals, strength and conditioning, laundry, or student employee oversight.


Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required, Master's degree preferred.

  • Experience in coaching softball, collegiate level coaching preferred.

  • A strong understanding of and commitment to NCAA Division III.

  • A commitment to adhering to all policies, rules, and regulations of Covenant College, the Collegiate Conference of the South and the NCAA.

  • Ability to work cooperatively with other administrators, coaches, students and faculty members.

  • Good written and oral communication skills.


Additional Eligibility Requirements:

  • An acceptance of and commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

  • An understanding of the mission and purpose of Covenant College.

  • A strong understanding of and commitment to Scripture, the Westminster Standards and the doctrinal standards of the Presbyterian Church of America (PCA) denomination.

  • Must be able to assent to Covenant College's Staff Commitments.


Physical Work Environment:

  • This role is expected to be performed on campus unless otherwise directed or arranged for and operates primarily around campus athletic facilities as well as in a professional office environment using standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other job-related technology.

  • There is a mix of standing and sitting for this particular role.

  • Classified as light, occasional lifting or lowering an object from one level to another (includes upward pulling) up to 10 lbs.

  • Expressing or exchanging ideas and conversation by means of the spoken word; needs to be fluent and conversant using the English language.

  • Generally, college hours of operation for full-time staff are Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm. For coaches, days and hours of work are primarily dictated by the necessities of the sport and the needs of the athletic department and will occasionally require working evenings and weekends.

  • Travel will be required for games, practices, training and professional development.
