Head Men's Basketball Coach

Coker University is seeking a dynamic, forward-thinking, and student-centered Head Men’s Basketball Coach to lead all aspects of its NCAA Division II men’s basketball program. This leader will play a vital role in continuing to build a competitive, values-driven program that emphasizes academic success, athletic excellence, character development, and community engagement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide vision, leadership, and strategic direction for the men’s basketball program.

  • Plan, organize, and supervise practices and games.

  • Recruit and retain high-character student-athletes in alignment with the university’s academic and athletic standards.

  • Monitor academic progress and support the academic success and graduation of student-athletes.

  • Develop and manage the program budget, including travel, equipment, and recruiting expenses.

  • Ensure compliance with NCAA, South Atlantic Conference (SAC), and institutional rules and regulations.

  • Foster a positive team culture grounded in integrity, accountability, discipline, and mutual respect.

  • Collaborate with the Athletic Training, Strength & Conditioning, and Academic Support staff to ensure the health, safety, and holistic development of all student-athletes.

  • Participate in fundraising, community service, and alumni engagement efforts in partnership with the athletic department and university advancement.

  • Supervise assistant coaches, team managers, and support staff.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of coaching experience at the collegiate level, with demonstrated success in recruiting and program development.

  • Thorough understanding of NCAA rules and commitment to compliance.

  • Proven ability to develop student-athletes athletically, academically, and personally.

  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.

  • Ability to represent Coker University in a professional manner on campus, in the community, and with alumni.


Work Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds.

  • Active participation in practices and games, including standing for long periods.

  • Must be CPR/AED certified at time of employment.
