This position reports directly to the Head Softball Coaching will be crucial in developing and implementing a comprehensive pitching program and fostering a culture of excellence within the pitching staff. The Assistant Softball Coach will also contribute to other aspects of the program, including on-field coaching, recruiting, and team administration.
Responsibilities:
Pitching Program Development and Implementation:
Design and implement a comprehensive and progressive pitching development program that aligns with the Head Coach's philosophy and maximizes pitching performance.
Provide individualized instruction to pitchers on mechanics, pitch development, mental approach, and injury prevention.
Utilize video analysis and other technological resources to provide detailed feedback and aid in pitcher development.
Develop and implement effective pitching drills and practice plans.
Pitching Staff Management and Strategy:
Collaborate with the Head Coach in developing pitching strategies and game plans based on opponent scouting and pitcher strengths.
Analyze opponent hitting tendencies and communicate relevant information to the pitching staff.
Assist with in-game pitching decisions and bullpen management.
Recruiting (with a Pitching Focus):
Identify, evaluate, and recruit talented student-athletes with strong pitching potential who fit the academic and athletic profile of Coker University.
Maintain a recruiting database and effectively communicate with prospective student-athletes and their families.
Represent the softball program positively at recruiting events.
On-Field Coaching (Additional Responsibilities):
Assist with coaching other aspects of the game, such as defensive skills and base running, as assigned by the Head Coach.
Provide support and instruction during team practices and games.
Team Administration:
Assist with team travel arrangements, equipment management (specifically pitching-related equipment), and other administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach.
Ensure the safety and well-being of student-athletes during all team activities.
Assist with fundraising efforts and alumni relations as needed.
Compliance:
Adhere to all NCAA, South Atlantic Conference, and Coker University rules and regulations.
Maintain a strong understanding of and commitment to compliance.
Safety and Well-being:
Maintain current CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) and AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certification.
Promote a positive and supportive team environment that emphasizes academic success, sportsmanship, and personal growth.
Report any concerns regarding student-athlete welfare to the Head Coach and appropriate personnel.
Professional Development:
Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance coaching skills and knowledge of pitching techniques and strategies.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree required. Significant and successful experience coaching pitching at the high school, club, or college level is required.
Demonstrated expertise in pitching mechanics, pitching strategies, and pitcher development.
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to identify and recruit talented pitchers.
Commitment to the academic success and overall well-being of student-athletes.
Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
Valid driver's license and the ability to travel.
Current CPR and AED certification.
Master's degree in a related field preferred.
