Position Summary: A successful lacrosse coach at Clarkson University will provide effective leadership in each of the following areas in relation to their sport: recruiting, teaching/coaching, counseling, marketing, alumni relations, fund raising, and sport administration. It will be necessary to prioritize and balance these activities in a manner that best promotes and advances their sport within all Clarkson University, Liberty League and NCAA rules and regulations
General Purpose: Recruit and teach successful female athletes in the sport of lacrosse that will promote and demonstrate the mission and goals of Clarkson University.
Position Responsibilities:
Promote the mission and goals of Clarkson University, the NCAA and the athletic department
Recruit quality student-athletes who will fit the academic and athletic profile for Clarkson University
Evaluate prospective student-athletes and decide whether they are potential members of the Clarkson University Lacrosse Team.
Determine a recruiting plan for each academic year to evaluate and recruit student-athletes to Clarkson University
Effectively develop a teaching/coaching plan that best utilizes the strengths (individual and collective) of the Lacrosse Team
Develop practice and game preparation plans
Assist student-athletes with their academic progress by implementing study halls and coordinating with the Student Success Center
Work with the athletic administration to develop appropriate non-conference and conference schedules
Develop a positive image for the lacrosse program through various media outlets
Work with the compliance coordinator to ensure program compliance with all NCAA, league and University rules and regulations
Hire, instruct, and evaluate appropriate support staff (assistant coaches, student managers, volunteer coaches)
Develop and promote community activities including but not limited to summer camps, leagues, or community service activities
Develop a strength, conditioning, and nutrition program for student-athletes
Promote the success of the program, department, and university as a primary contact for interested alumni
Effectively manage and balance the lacrosse budget annually
Establish all travel itineraries to away intercollegiate contests
All other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics and Recreation
Essential Skills: Tactical and technical expertise in the sport of women’s lacrosse; excellent communication skills, ability to multi-task; must be able to problem solve, suggest and implement solutions.
Education:
Minimal Qualifications: Bachelor Degree
Preferred Qualifications: Masters in a related field
Experience:
Minimal Experience: Previous collegiate coaching experience or, success as a head coach at the high school level. Demonstrated commitment to furthering the goals and objectives of both, the University and Athletics Department, Ability to successfully recruit quality student-athletes, Understanding of the role of the student-athlete in a competitive academic/athletic environment, and Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate to a variety of constituency groups. Knowledge of the NCAA Division III rules and regulations
Preferred Experience: 2-4 years of collegiate coaching experience preferably at the DIII level
