Assistant Athletic Trainer

Responsible for providing the highest quality health care to the student athletes.  Assist in the oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Athletic Training Facility and Rehabilitation Clinic. Collaborate with the CMU Athletic Training Program to provide supervision, instruction and evaluation of athletic training students.  This is a 10 month, full time staff position.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Responsible for coordination and oversight of the athletic training services to the assigned sports.
  2. Provide appropriate procedures for the first aid, prevention, assessment, and treatment of athletic injuries.
  3. Insure NAIA standards for the provision of appropriate athletic training services to student athletes are consistently met.
  4. Assist in the oversight of the day-to day operations of the athletic training services at CMU’s main campus.
  5. Serve as a Preceptor in the AT Program to accomplish the interface between the Athletic Training Program and the Athletic Training Services that provides health care to the CMU Athletics community.

 

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  • Assist in supervising clinical personnel;
  • Provide day-to-day Sports Medicine clinic management.
  • Provides practice and game coverage along with traveling with assigned teams.
  • Participate in the recruitment and retention of students;
  • Assist in maintaining of the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Clinic policy and procedures manual;
  • Participate with University-wide accreditation processes;
  • Administer modalities under the supervision of a physician
  • Maintain accurate medical records on assigned athletes
  • Accompany competitive teams to school scheduled events. When scheduling conflicts arise, the higher risk sport will be given priority
  • Serve as liaison between players and coaches and coaches and physicians
  • Assist in the administration of the drug education program for all athletes
  • Provide appropriate rehabilitation and follow up care for athletic injuries
  • Further professional development by participation in professional organizations and/or continuing education programs and workshops.

 

 

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS

 

Currently licensed (or Eligible) by the State of Missouri Board of Healing Arts as an Athletic Trainer

Bachelor's Degree Required

Master’s degree in Athletic Training preferred

BOC Certified Athletic Trainer

Minimum of 2-3 years’ clinical experience

CPR Certified through the Red Cross or American Heart Association

Experience supervising AT students in the clinical setting.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

Frequently stand for at least one hour consecutively.

Able to effectively complete the typical professional AT workload

Speak loudly and clearly enough to be understood by students.

Communication: Must be able to utilize effective communication with peers, subordinates, students and their families, and other educational providers. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ability to effectively interpret and process written and verbal information.
  • Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) with students, peers, clients/families, healthcare professionals, and others within the community.
  • Ability to access information and to communicate and document effectively via computer.
  • Ability to recognize, interpret, and respond to nonverbal behavior of self and others.
  • Consistently demonstrate a professional presentation that upholds the Central Methodist University mission statements and philosophy.

Behavior: Must be capable of exercising good judgment, developing empathetic and therapeutic relationships with students, clients and others. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ability to work with multiple students/families and colleagues at the same time.
  • Ability to foster and maintain cooperative and collegial relationships with students and peers.

Critical Thinking: Must possess sufficient abilities in the areas of calculation, critical problem solving, reasoning, and judgment to be able to comprehend and process information within a reasonable time frame as determined by the profession. Must be able to prioritize, organize, and attend to responsibilities efficiently. This includes, but is not limited to:

  • Ability to collect, interpret and analyze written, verbal and observed data.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks, integrate information and make decisions.

 

OTHER INFORMATION AND ATTRIBUTES: This is a 10-month position.

  1. Contributes to monitoring and evaluating of students.
  2. Supports and contributes creatively the work and efforts of colleagues in achieving the programmatic, divisional, and institutional mission and vision.
  3. Provide Athletic Training Services for youth summer camps for additional compensation.
