
Position Summary
Under the administrative direction of the Director of Athletics, the Assistant Athletics Director for Administration serves as a key member of the Athletics leadership team and provides strategic oversight and coordination of athletics human resources, business operations, sport administration, and performance support services.
This position ensures effective stewardship of personnel, financial resources, and operational processes through the establishment of cohesive, compliant, and sustainable business practices aligned with University, CSU, conference, and NCAA regulations. The role partners closely with campus stakeholders to integrate Athletics operations within University systems, strengthen internal controls, promote operational efficiency, and support student-athlete health, safety, and competitive success.
Athletics Human Resources Administration (30%)
Serve as the primary liaison between Athletics and campus Human Resources and Faculty Affairs on personnel matters
Coordinate recruitments, onboarding, evaluations, corrective actions, and offboarding processes
Support staff training, leadership development, and workforce planning initiatives
Provide guidance to supervisors on performance management and employee relations
Foster a positive, inclusive, and high-performing departmental culture
Athletics Business Operations (30%)
Oversee Athletics business operational processes, including revenue-generating activities such as ticketing, game guarantees, NCAA distributions, camps, and special events
Serve as liaison to campus partners including Business Services, HR, Facilities, IT, University Police, Risk Management, and Procurement
Ensure compliance with University financial policies, PCI standards, and CSU requirements
Support budget development, monitoring, fiscal controls, and financial reporting
Identify operational gaps and implement improvements to strengthen accountability and transparency
Provide administrative oversight of Sports Medicine and Strength & Conditioning
Support policies prioritizing student-athlete health, safety, and risk management
Oversee budgets, staffing coordination, and operational planning for performance units
Ensure adherence to NCAA, conference, and institutional health and safety standards
Serve as sport administrator for assigned teams
Support coaches in managing program operations, budgets, and student-athlete welfare
Promote a culture of excellence, sportsmanship, and academic success
Facilitate communication between coaching staff and Athletics leadership
Perform other duties and special projects as assigned
Participate in required trainings and serve as a Disaster Service Worker as designated
Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sports administration, higher education, finance, human resources, or a related field. Three (3) years of progressive experience within intercollegiate athletics administration, athletics finance, and/or athletics human resources, including supervision of professional staff or students.
Licensure:
Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain by date of hire.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics administration, HR practices, financial operations, and sport oversight
Ability to interpret and apply University, CSU, NCAA, and conference regulations
Demonstrated ability to manage budgets and fiscal controls
Strong leadership, supervisory, and interpersonal skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage confidential information
Strong organizational and time management skills
Proficiency with business software applications and ability to learn University systems
Experience overseeing multiple functional areas within intercollegiate athletics
Experience supervising head coaches
Experience supporting Sports Medicine and/or Strength & Conditioning operations
Experience in a higher education environment with a service-centered approach
Ability to travel and work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
Successful completion of a background check
Designated as a sensitive and conflict-of-interest position
Limited Mandated Reporter under California law
