The compensation for this appointment will range from $125,000 to $155,000 annually and reflects what California Baptist University reasonably expects to pay for this staff appointment. Actual compensation may vary based on the qualifications and experience of the applicant, as well as market conditions. In addition to wages, CBU offers a robust suite of employee benefits. 

Position Summary Information

Summary

  1. Oversee and lead the external unit of the athletic department that includes brand management, broadcasting, communications and digital media, corporate partnerships, marketing and fan engagement, media production and creative services, and ticket operations and sales among other special projects and strategic initiatives.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned.

1. Understand and agree to abide by the mission of CBU and the CBU Athletics Department.

2. Serve on the Athletic Director’s executive leadership team and senior staff with sport oversight responsibilities.

3. Oversee the in-house corporate partnership program by identifying and soliciting potential new sponsors, retaining current sponsors, making sales calls and setting meetings, creating proposals, negotiating deals, developing contracts, and executing fulfillment of agreements.

4. Supervise department area heads and associated staff in the areas of communications and digital media, marketing and fan engagement, media production and creative services, and ticketing. Coordinate strategies within the external unit to maximize attendance, revenue, and publicity.

5. Oversee all marketing and promotional efforts to generate fan support at events. This includes advertising, community relations, and grassroots marketing to increase the attendance of the general public and campus community to games. Approve all game scripts.

6. Oversee the department’s ticket office, including the sales and operations associated with the season, group, and single-game tickets for athletics events. Provide additional support for university events such as Commencement services, Christmas concerts, theater, camps, and clinics.

7. Oversee all broadcasts of events, including those produced in-house by media production staff for ESPN Plus. Manage the current radio partnership for men’s basketball home and away games. Coordinate sponsor agreement deliverables such as commercials and in-game elements.

8. Oversee the coordination of content for the athletics department website and social media accounts and any other public-facing publications and materials representing the department. Responsible for having proofing processes in place and layers of approvals for digital content. Coordinate strategies to help develop a national brand and generate national media stories.

9. Manage a variety of existing vendor partnerships and agreements, and develop new partnerships as needed.

10. Responsible for knowing current NCAA, Conference, and University rules, regulations, and deadlines governing Athletic sports.

11. Represent California Baptist University Athletics by participating on campus committees.

12. Maintain up-to-date information on sports regulations, rule changes, and NCAA policies. Report all compliance issues to the compliance office.

13. Respond to all administrative correspondence in the requested time frame and attend all staff meetings.

14. Ensure the physical, emotional, and social welfare of student-athletes.

15. Weekends, evenings, and holidays are required. Travel with sports teams for championships or other trips as assigned. Sport supervision duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Ability to investigate and analyze information and draw conclusions.

  • Ability to travel, including domestic/international air travel, and work nights/weekends.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; and requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate a computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers; and speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment, with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards.

Education and/or Experience

Master’s degree (M.A.) or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
