Position Overview
The Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Health, Performance and Well-Being will coordinate all healthcare activities for our teams and student-athletes and act as the primary contact with the NCAA Sport Science Institute. With the NCAA designation as a healthcare administrator, he/she will serve as a collaborative, innovative, and effective leader to oversee the health, performance and well-being of Butler student-athletes as we seek to meet the mission of Butler University. Reporting to the Vice President/Director of Athletics, the Associate Athletic Director will contribute to the development of the Athletics strategic plan for 22 teams and over 500 student-athletes. He/She will identify and help implement strategies that ensure healthcare is delivered in a manner consistent with Butler, Big East, and NCAA priorities.
Responsibilities
Provide effective leadership, development and oversight of the Sports Medicine Department, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition and the Well-Being staff.
Serve as hiring manager, supervisor, and evaluator for Head Athletic Trainer, Head Strength & Conditioning coaches; conduct selection and coordination of multi-specialty doctors, clinical sports psychologists, dietitian(s), and additional personnel as needed. Coordinate the delivery of effective and safe healthcare practices to student-athletes through compliance and outstanding customer service.

Coordinate the delivery of effective and safe healthcare practices to student-athletes through compliance and outstanding customer service.
Lead activities that comply with Federal and State healthcare laws, HIPAA and student-athlete healthcare privacy. Guide risk management, quality initiatives and compliance on State Board of Health guidelines, student-athlete healthcare documentation, equipment compliance records and EAPs. Lead personnel training, competency assurance and annual continuing training compliance.
Collaborate with the Associate Athletic Director for Internal Operations and the Vice President/Director of Athletics to produce a yearly budget and ensure that Athletics healthcare meets all budget goals. Develop policy and procedures for the management of the budget in collaboration with Associate Athletic Director of Internal Operations and Assistant Athletic Director of Business Operations.
Manage all contract and vendor relationships that have direct impact on the areas of health, performance and well-being of student-athletes. Provide critical emphasis to the Team Physician Services/Sports Medicine Provider contract including but not limited to physician coverage, physician guidelines, specialist physician access, physician accessibility on campus, and ambulance service). Direct the yearly evaluation of these relationships and provide recommendations to the Vice President/Director of Athletics accordingly.
By embracing the highest standards of integrity and ethical behavior, collaborate with the Butler Athletics compliance staff and the University’s General Counsel. Be proactive in communication and documentation of student-athlete eligibility with clear and timely interaction with Compliance.
Serve as oversight to healthcare and strength & conditioning practices, ensuring compliance with all regulations governing credentials and the University.
Develop and lead the professional development plans of the athletic trainers and strength and conditioning coaches. Athletic Training is recognized by the American Medical Association (AMA), Health Resources Services Administration (HRSA), and the Department of Health and Human Services as an allied healthcare profession. Coordinate and ensure the ongoing required certification of the Athletic Trainers and Strength and Conditioning coaches.
Demonstrate support for the University’s mission, the mission of Butler Athletics mission and The Butler Way.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Vice President/Director of Athletics.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in management, sports business, kinesiology or a related field
6 or more years of demonstrable leadership experience in collegiate athletics, sports medicine leadership, or strength and conditioning.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s Degree.
Demonstrable skills in athletic healthcare decision making, compliance, and staffing management.
NATA BOC Athletic Trainer (current).
