Buena Vista University, an NCAA Division III institution and a member of the American Rivers Conference (A-R-C), is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Men's Wrestling Coach. The Assistant Men's Wrestling Coach will assist the Head Men's Wrestling Coach with all duties of successfully operating the wrestling program, including recruiting student-athletes, assisting with training sessions/game preparation/game-day coaching, monitoring the student-athletes academically, and managing game-day operations. As a member of the athletics department, other duties may be assigned by the Director of Athletics to support the overall success of BVU Athletic programs.
Primary Duties
Assist in advising student-athletes and staff of applicable NCAA, American Rivers Conference, and wrestling-specific rules, regulations, and University policies, and ensure compliance with such regulations.
Assist in developing pre-season, in-season, and off-season training for the team with the Head Men's Wrestling Coach and Head Strength and Conditioning Coach.
Recruit student-athletes compatible with Buena Vista University’s mission and the specific goals of the wrestling program.
Monitor student-athlete academic performance and implement team, Athletics department, and University measures to support their academic performance.
Communicate with the student-athletes about academics and other matters pertaining to their enrollment and educational progress.
Plan and direct athletics skill development for student-athletes.
Ensure appropriate safety measures are observed when conducting team activities.
Coordinate with the University Athletic Trainers to ensure student-athletes receive proper medical and physical training services.
Coordinate all activities in preparation for the scheduled competition.
Attend all team practices and home and away contests.
Assume responsibility for student-athlete compliance with all applicable rules and regulations. Assist the Head Women’s Wrestling Coach and the Athletics Director in resolving cases where a student-athlete violates an applicable regulation.
Work with alumni student groups, University administration, and community groups to seek support for the team.
Attend appropriate Athletics departmental staff meetings.
Gym, facility, and field supervision.
Other duties as assigned by the Athletics Director.
Qualifications:
Successful collegiate coaching experience.
Ability to recruit qualified student-athletes.
Bachelor’s degree required. A master’s degree in health, exercise science, or a related field is preferred.
