
Belmont University’s Department of Athletics is seeking qualified applicants for a graduate assistant position in Student-Athlete Academic Success. Under the supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director of Student-Athlete Academic Success, the graduate assistant will work with members of the student-athlete academic success team in all facets of student-athlete academic support. Primarily responsibilities will include but are not limited to: conduct weekly academic support meetings with new and returning student-athletes; assist in coordinating the tutor program; prepare weekly study hall reports; assist with course registration periods; communicate available services and events to student-athletes; prepare academic recovery/success plans for student-athletes, as required; assist with special event planning and execution, including award celebrations, graduation receptions, etc.; perform other duties, as assigned. Additionally, the graduate assistant will have the opportunity to work with Belmont’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) and assist with the creation and delivery of student-athlete development programming.
Compensation: The graduate assistantship provides a 100% waiver of tuition and consolidated graduate fees for the following programs: Master of Sport Administration (30 hours), Educational Leadership (M.Ed, 31 hours), Master in Strategic Communication and Leadership (30 hours), and Master of Business Administration (36 hours). Other program interests must be approved by the hiring manager. The assistantship does not cover additional expenses such as books, study abroad, or other program-related costs. The position includes $1,000 to BruinBucks funds each fall and spring, and assistants must maintain at least 6 graduate credit hours per semester to remain eligible.
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree and acceptance into one of Belmont University’s Master’s Degree program with priority going to students in Sport Administration, Education, Counseling graduate programs. The ideal candidate will possess knowledge and experience in the field of college athletics, education, and/or counseling and desire a career in academic advising/support in intercollegiate athletics. Must have strong writing, interpersonal, listening, and organizational skills; the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and meet established work deadlines; the ability to handle sensitive materials and information in a confidential manner; the capacity to model mature, responsible leadership and mentor student-athletes; and, the ability to comprehend and analyze curriculum requirements for degree completion. Knowledge of NCAA academic eligibility requirements a plus. Evening and weekend hours may be required.
