What to Expect
The Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach will directly supervise the performance training program of assigned Olympic sports teams. The mission will be to contribute to the wellness of Cadet-athletes, assist Cadet-athletes in optimizing competitive performance, and contribute to the readiness of Army West Point Athletics Cadet-athletes. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to programming for individuals and groups on daily strength, speed, and conditioning performance and health (on-site and during travel); translating the latest scientific evidence into practical sports performance recommendations; tracking and documenting outcomes of training programs, maintaining health and safety of all cadet-athletes and strength facilities. This is a professional position, and all duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the United States Military Academy (“USMA”), Army West Point Athletics Association Inc. (“AWPAA”), applicable conferences and the NCAA.

What You'll Do
45% Primary Teams Assessment & Analysis

  • Designing annual sports performance program for primary teams to include strength, speed, and conditioning.

  • Oversee the analytics to include Polar, Forcedeck analysis, Norbord, wellness questionnaires, and performance testing.

  • Maintain all information on cadets-athletes.

  • Working in collaboration with all High-Performance units, develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive strength and conditioning plan for the Cadet-athletes that optimizes the impact on the holistic development of student-athletes.

  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly training reports.

  • Collaborate with nutritionists on nutritional strategies.

  • Design strength and conditioning protocols for injured athletes.

  • Travel with primary team for all away competitions.

  • This position frequently communicates with cadet-athletes, coaches and staff who have questions related to proper technique and plans for physical development. Must be able to exchange accurate information with cadet-athletes, coaches and staff.

  • Must be able to observe and assess physical movement and other sports performance concerns in coordination with the other members of the high performance and sports medicine team.

30% Secondary Team(s)

  • Designing sports performance programs for assigned secondary sports to include strength, speed, and conditioning.

  • Oversee the analytics for (TBA) to include Polar, Forcedeck analysis, Norbord, wellness questionnaires, and performance testing.

  • Working in collaboration with all High-Performance units, develop and lead the implementation of a comprehensive strength and conditioning plan for the assigned sports that optimizes the impact on the holistic development of student-athletes.

  • Provide daily, weekly, and monthly training reports.

  • Collaborate with nutritionists on nutritional strategies.

  • Design strength and conditioning protocols for injured athletes.

25% Other Duties

  • Assist with scheduling, maintenance, supervision of weight room.

  • Work in collaboration with USMA to help schedule summer training.

  • Maintains Strength and Conditioning certification and acquires/maintains other required credentials, continuing education requirements and contact hours.

  • Assist with mentoring of cadets.

  • Assist with cleaning and organizing the strength facility.

  • Maintains CPR/AED/First Aid Certification.

  • Stays abreast of current sports performance and analytic methods.

  • Conducts self in a manner that demonstrates adherence to standards of professional performance.

  • Utilizes effective written and oral communication skills to promote and maintain effective working relationships with all significant parties.

  • Abilities to set priorities, meet multiple deadlines, analyze problems, develop and implement effective solutions.

What We Can Offer
$42,000 - $45,000

This job posting contains a pay range, which represents the range of salaries that AWPAA believes, in good faith, at the time of this posting that it might be willing to pay for the posted position. AWPAA expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would AWPAA consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range.
