The American Athletic Conference is accepting applications for the position of Director of Basketball Operations and Sport Administration. The position reports directly to the Associate Commissioner for Basketball and the Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration & Championships.
Summary
The American Athletic Conference (AAC) Director of Basketball Operations and Sport Administration will primarily serve as a point of contact for both men’s and women’s basketball administrative liaisons at each AAC institution, while also assisting with the management of select Conference Olympic Sports post-season championships.
The successful candidate will assist the Associate Commissioner for Basketball with the overall management and administration of all the Conference’s basketball initiatives and programs. He/she will focus on regular season and Conference championship operational policies, their implementation and execution, and will assist with interpretation of policies if necessary. He/she will also perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Commissioner for Basketball and the Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration and Championships.
Evening and weekend work will be required. The anticipated start date is August 12, 2024.
Responsibilities
Basketball
Serve as the Conference’s primary manager for both men’s and women’s basketball operations and assist in Conference Championship administration as part of the Sport Administration and Championship department.
The candidate will work collaboratively with the Associate Commissioner for Basketball and the Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration to ensure clear and direct lines of communication exist between the American office and the member institution athletic administrators.
Maintain regular contact and cultivate relationships with external constituents and partners. Develop and employ strategies that will enhance the prestige and positioning of the Conference’s basketball programs and properties.
Serve as a secondary liaison to the head coaches, coordinate meeting agendas and provide recommendations and insight regarding governance items.
Serve as the primary contact to the women’s and men’s basketball directors of operations, game managers and facility contacts at each institution.
Assist in the representation and promotion of interests of AAC basketball programs with external constituents, including the NCAA national office and the Conference’s broadcast partners.
Assist with the Conference’s television and scheduling procedures by researching pertinent and practicable data and provide input and creativity to the process to enhance television, media, and internet exposure.
Serve as part of the Conference’s Men’s & Women’s Basketball Championships management team.
Produce the Conference’s annual Basketball Policy Manual and provide regular analysis and interpretation for policies and procedures.
Provide administrative and operational support (as needed) to the Conference’s Men’s and Women’s Coordinators of Officiating.
Responsible for tracking the end-of-season standings and seeding scenarios and coordinate distribution of regular season awards and gifts.
Work collaboratively with the Conference’s communications team regarding social media, digital and printed promotional efforts.
Serve as primary liaison between DVSport and each game administrator regarding in-venue replay.
Ensure in-venue branding guidelines are being adhered to and assist in the development of Conference marketing plans and public service announcements.
Assist the communications staff in developing the plan for Media Day.
Sport Administration and Championships
Serve as the Conference liaison to select Olympic Sports under the supervision of the Associate Commissioner for Sport Administration & Championships
Administrate and provide on-site supervision for select Olympic Sport Conference Championships.
Produce select Olympic Sport policy manuals and provide regular analysis and interpretation for policies and procedures.
Coordinate meeting agendas and process recommendations through the Conference’s governance system for select Olympic Sport coaches’ groups.
Required Education
· B.A. or B.S.
Qualifications
· A minimum of four to six years of comparable experience in basketball and/or sport administration.
· Outstanding written and oral skills.
· Extensive computer knowledge along with strong analytical, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for success in the position.
· Additional experience as a student-athlete and/or coach would be valuable.
