POSITION DESCRIPTION


Position Title: Staff Athletic Trainer

Department: Athletics

Supervisor: Assistant Athletic Director for Athletic Training

Position Duration: Full-time; 10 months per year (August 1 – May 31)

Summary:

The Staff Athletic Trainer supports the Head Athletic Trainer in providing medical services for all intercollegiate athletes (approximately 650 student-athletes) at Albion College. Works to prevent athletic-related injuries through proper education of both coaches and student-athletes and to evaluate and treat student-athletes after an injury occurs. Independent judgment is required to plan, prioritize, and organize a diversified workload with sensitivity and confidentiality. Must contribute to a campus climate that emphasizes a commitment to working with individuals and groups from a variety of identities, cultures and backgrounds.


FLSA Classification: Salaried / Exempt / Professional 

Employment Status: At-Will


Education and Experience:  

  • Master’s degree in Athletic Training or related field required  

  • National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification (NATABOC) certification 

  • State of Michigan Athletic Trainer license required


Essential Job Functions:

  1. Injury prevention, evaluation, treatment, referral and rehabilitation of Albion College Student-athletes.

  2. Designs and implements basic fitness, nutrition, and strength and conditioning programs for student-athletes.

  3. Administers first aid to injured players such as giving artificial respiration, cleaning and bandaging wounds, and applying heat and cold to promote healing.

  4. Wraps ankles, fingers, or wrists in synthetic skin, protective gauze, and adhesive tape to support muscles and ligaments.

  5. Organize and maintain daily medical records in Sportsware Online.

  6. Clinical training of athletic training students.

  7. Maintains confidentiality of athlete injury information.

  8. Design customized plans to meet individual needs, as needed

  9. Operates therapeutic devices and equipment.

  10. Fits braces, guards, mouth pieces, and other similar devices.

  11. Oversees the daily management of the training room, including ordering and storage of supplies and equipment. 

  12. Seeks appropriate referral/consultation for seriously injured athletes.

  13. Supervises safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards. 

  14. Assist injured athletes in completing and submitting insurance claims, as needed.

  15. Participates in the recruitment of volunteers, as appropriate to the area of operation.

  16. Assures compliance with applicable regulations, effective operations, and accuracy of data and security of assets.

  17. Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer or Athletics Director.
