Athletic Trainer, Soccer

The Soccer Athletic Trainer, under the medical-legal supervision of the head team physician and the head athletic trainer is responsible for the prevention, evaluation, management and rehabilitation of injuries for all athletes within the University’s comprehensive athletic medicine program, with primary responsibility to Women’s Soccer. This role includes the authority to make unchallengeable decisions regarding the management and return-to-play status of any ill or injured athlete, as deemed appropriate. Additionally, the Athletic Trainer has the unchallengeable authority to cancel or modify workouts when necessary for health and safety reasons.

Essential Functions:

  • Primary medical care provider with dedicated responsibility to Women’s Soccer athletes

  • Emergency medicine preparedness

    • Developing and implementing comprehensive emergency action plans

    • Women’s Soccer medical staff preparedness

    • Supply and equipment preparedness

  • Preventing, recognizing, diagnosing, referring, treating, and rehabilitating injuries

  • Establishing criteria for safe return to practice and play and implementing the return-to-play process

  • Establishing and operating treatment facilities for both practice and game situations that follow national and local standards

  • Determining venue and activity settings requiring the on-site presence of the athletic trainer and team physician and which require that they be available

  • Maintaining accurate medical records for athletes

  • Supervision, education and recruitment of undergraduate and graduate assistant athletic trainers

  • Specific supervision of certified athletic trainer(s) as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer

  • Work with physicians and other allied health care professionals to deliver healthcare to athletes

  • Aid in the coordination of rehabilitation for all athletes in all sports

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer

Duties:

  • Injury Prevention - athlete focused and program focused with coaches 

  • Injury/Illness Evaluation - assess acute conditions and determine plan 

  • Injury/Illness Management - implement care & treatment plan 

  • Rehabilitation - operative & non-operative rehabilitation 

  • Documentation - maintain athlete personal medical record 

  • Administration - as warranted tasks with professional medical staff, coaches, compliance, etc. 

  • Athlete workout - present for organized/supervised practices and strength & conditioning 

  • Sport Competition - attend all home and away competitions 

 

Job Requirements

Required Education and Experience: Master's Degree, AND:

  • Understand or have experience with compliance with NCAA Bylaws, HIPAA, and FERPA.

Certifications:

  • Certified Athletic Trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC) and/or Licensed Physical Therapist

  • Licensed or able to get licensed per the Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision

  • Current CPR/AED certification

Skills:

  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines

  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives

  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, coaches, administrators, and other staff

  • Able to demonstrate ability to work well with a diverse group of clients

  • Knowledge of athletic training techniques and their appropriate application.

  • Skill set of manual and therapeutic modalities and evaluation of injury.

  • Experience and abilities with a range of injury and illness.

  • Proven record of implementing athlete treatment plans, safely and effectively.

Supervision: Possible supervision of student workers

Advertised Working Conditions:

  • Ability to engage in repetitive motions and communicate effectively

  • Environmental: Exposure to extreme temperature changes

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions including in the heat and cold

Departmental Preferences:

  • 3 years of experience working with athletes

  • Experience in a collegiate setting

  • Knowledge of rules and regulations of the SEC and NCAA 

  • Experience and abilities with a range of injury and illness
